Saints' Brees still out, Thomas returns
Mike Tripplett
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Drew Brees remained sidelined by a strained oblique during Monday’s practice, increasing the odds that he will sit out the New Orleans Saints' second preseason game on Friday night against the Tennessee Titans. However, Brees continued to show signs that he won’t be out for too long. He threw passes to receiver Kenny Stills and ran with cornerback Champ Bailey, among other exercises on an adjacent practice field. Saints coach Sean Payton didn’t bother with another daily status update calling Brees "day to day" and adding that Brees is "getting there." Payton did, however, elaborate slightly when asked about the injuries to cornerbacks Bailey and Patrick Robinson and how they’ll affect the Saints' evaluation of that No. 2 cornerback battle. Although Payton didn’t specify either player's injury, he predicted both will return to practice soon. Bailey, who has been sidelined since July 31, did more running on the side Monday than we have seen to date. Robinson, who left Sunday’s practice early, spent some time on the stationary bike Monday. "I think (Bailey) is making progress, and I think sooner than later he’s gonna be back out here," Payton said. "Champ’s someone that’s smart enough to know his body and obviously wants to make sure he’s 100 percent. ... Read More New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees still out, Pierre Thomas returns - ESPN |

From a friend of mine today who is at Greenbrier, "Brees running drills with Kenny Stills this morning so don't listen to the media, he is practicing."

Drew needs the reps !!!!!!!!!
PRob and Champ are two that worries me. lets hope they can make the season or at least rotate properly with injuries. one out, one in, one out, one in ..... and so forth through out the season and not catch both on the bench at the same time |

I'm concerned that Drew is not getting any reps with the first string. I now he is a veteran but even veterans, especially those in a key role, need the reps & some game time since offense is about timing.

On a distantly related topic, they are going to dry needle the point of the shortened core in my bicep tomorrow. I can't wait. Seriously. I learn more and more about sports medicine every time I injure myself. ![]() |

We really are talking about a HOF QB in an offense that's been stable for close to a decade, that has had slight turnover and additions. The only ones who may get a bit stiffed is Cooks, Lelito, and maybe Armstead. But honestly if the complete first team goes into the 3rd quarter of the 3rd preseason game, and everyone is healthy enough to practice for the final 3 weeks before the opener, which means starting after Friday's game, then everything should be fine. I really hope that Payton plans to simply hand the ball off to Ingram and Robinson for 35 carries and run the ball right down the Falcons' throats on September 7th. Then there won't be much worry about Brees or any of the rest of the offense. SFIAH |
