White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. -- There's a hairline difference between cockiness and confidence. New Orleans Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis often smudges the line.

For example ...

"I want to be the best," Lewis said. "I respect those guys -- Patrick Peterson, Richard Sherman and them. But it's time Keenan Lewis can be mentioned with those guys. I'm ready to go."

Then there's this ...

"Let me tell y'all something about (Brandin) Cooks," Lewis said after being left in the dust by the team's rookie first-round pick at a training camp practice. "That guy is really fast, maybe one of the fastest, but do not count out the West Bank. I'm going to carry out the West Bank on this race."

Exhibit No. 3 ...

"I'm not nowhere near where I want to be and nowhere near where my potential could be," Lewis said. "When I work with my coaches and with Champ (Bailey) a lot, they're helping me tune into those things.

"Whether it's coming out of my breaks a little quicker or understanding formations a lot better, I'm always looking for their help and something I try to do in the season and in the offseason. I'll always benefit from it."

Cocky? Confident? Lewis is both -- and that's perfect for the Saints' defense.
