Joe Morgan catching up in receiver battle

Coaches have some tough decisions to make on cuts; I wouldn't want to be in their shoes!

Yeah, the receiver and safety positions are going to be really tough to narrow down.

Any safety we cut might end up on the falcons and any receiver might end up on the Panthers.

Re: Joe Morgan catching up in receiver battle

If Morgan is becoming known for his blocking, and that's what Meachem is known for, it may make Meachem expendable. I think Toon is a wildcard as it seems coach is high on him. We'll see what Toon can really do with Brees behind center soon

Morgan looked pretty good out there.

Re: Joe Morgan catching up in receiver battle

Our cuts at WR are going to bring about the vultures from around the NFL. We're just really talented and deep. Wouldn't be surprised if we keep 6 WRs (Colston, Stills, Cooks, Meachem, Toon, & Morgan). Wow...the speed of Stills, Morgan AND Cooks is scary.

Watched the Raiders game last night, and they are in desperate need of a WR, specifically one that can catch. That was a horrible display, and it makes me thankful for the WR Corps we have.

Re: Joe Morgan catching up in receiver battle

I'm just not seeing Meachem on the squad, maybe on the speed dial. Speed and playmaking ability across the younger receiver unit will be the reason Meachem will turn in his play book in my opinion.

Re: Joe Morgan catching up in receiver battle

Yeah, I can see that side of it, too. But I think it'll come down to who Drew trusts the most, plus Meachem also contributes well in the running game with his blocking.

But put it this way...I'd be very pleasantly surprised if one of those young WRs take that spot away from Meachem outright.

Made the team for sure. Will keep six WR.

I think he has always been ahead. His problem is injury.

I think Meachem is as good as gone. Love him for all that he's done for the Saints over the years, but he can't get off the training table.

Keep

Colston
Cooks
Stills
Morgan
Toon

Seantavius Jones on the practice squad, and Tanner is a phone call away.

I think Meachem would probably get picked up pretty quick by a team like the Cardinals or Lions who could use WR depth.

I love Meachem, especially for his blocking but his speed seems to have been slowing the last couple of years. Imangine being a defence having to cover Stills, Morgan and Cooks. All that deep speed would open everything underneath for JG, Colston or a RB.

Don't trust Morgan because of his injury history as he's just too fragile...

I'd move him for a seventh round pick as we do pretty good with WR picks there...

I think Meachem makes the team, the Saints will probably go with 6 WRs. If they go with 5 then things get interesting. I still think with 5 that Meachem makes the team, with Toon and Morgan battling it out, edge to Morgan in that case.

we love Joe. He is a 110% all the time. i know he would have caught that ball Cook missed in the end zone. he would have laid out for it. whats not to like

can he stay healthy? that is the only knock on him

True but with only 10 catches in 3 seasons, that's a pretty big knock.

Meachem has likely played his last games with the Saints in light of the cost of his contract and the rise of the young talent on this team, such as Brandon Coleman, Seantavius Jones, and Toon finally developing. Those are some really tall receivers. I will wish Meachem the best with another team. Tanner is the odd man out yet again.

He's big and fast, and aside from one bad game last season, he's always played well. I don't get why so many people bash him all the time.

I don't understand either. He's developing as fast or faster than Lance Moore, Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem did. I guess some are convinced that the Colstons and Stills are the norm instead of the exception

Morgan looked really good Frday night. He was laying out for balls and beating the defense deep consistently. I hesitate to feel too good about him because of his injury history. But he is a Saint and I want to see him get it together and do well in New Orleans.

No way we let Morgan walk...hell look how long we kept AA around....that being said i think we keep 6 WRs.

5 on the roster and 4 on game day. Colston, Meachum, Cooks, Stills. That leaves one more spot. I'd go with Morgan. Probably more upside with Toon, younger, less severe injury than Morgan but Morgan looks strong. All he does is make great plays. I don't think Toon can trump any of the above and would be shocked if he did.

Re: Joe Morgan catching up in receiver battle

If he's healthy in my opinion he's better than Stills. He has good hands. He catches in traffic across the middle. He breaks tackles and is dynamic with the ball in his hands and is a true burner who gets behind the defense. I didn't know he is a strong blocker too. What's not to LOVE?

toon runs like a wimp
morgan is an IR waiting to happen

i am stumped to tell ya the truth. i am waiting for a dark horse to emerge from the pack. the media goes on about the quality of depth at wr every year and every year i see plenty of room for improvement,

Not a fan of Toon but he has played himself into a position.

Ranking 'em

Colston
Cooks
Stills
Meachem
Toon
Morgan
Coleman
Tanner
Jones
other kids...

I'd trade Joe Morgan to a team like the Rams for an OL like Barrett Jones, but Jones is injured with a bad back and had minor surgery...

I agree completely. Our WR core the whole time Brees has been here may have been one of the most untalented groups in the NFL. Other than Colston I'm not sure there was a starter among em and definetely no true #1. Cooks is a true #1 and with Stills in yr 2 and Colston were looking at Brees best group. Fingers crossed on Morgan staying healthy.
