Record amounts of money is going to ALS because of this. As of Monday, $15.5 million had been donated to the charity since July 29, the date it started. Over the same period last year the figure was $1.8 million. There is NOTHING negative to read into the challenge. Nothing at all. My wife and I have been giving to Team Gleason ever since it was organized a few years back. I love me some Steve, Michel and Rivers Gleason.

One of the people I work with was diagnosed several years ago. A few of us are doing the challenge next Monday.
I know it seems a like a craze but I really hope this helps.

I really like that it raise money for a great cause and it raised awareness but it is getting to the point where it is becoming a fad or a cool thing to do on you tube rather than what it is really all about. Asked some young kids the other day what was the reason and purpose of this challenge. They thought it was a cool thing to do. They didn't realize they should donate money to a worthy cause

I'm doing one on the 5th. We have a block party on the street in front of the restaurant the first Friday of every month. I'm collecting donations from all my customers and will pick one at random to douse me in the middle of the street. In fact there has been talk of an ice filled dunking booth. Come on out and donate if yA wNt!! It might actually shock more optimism into my system.

Awe brother, don't be so hard on your self. You have plenty of optimism, you're just overly cautious about it. ;)

The challenge has raised awareness (with those with above average IQ's) and has brought in more than $50,000,000 to the ALS Association.

So, yeah you're right, there are a lot of knuckleheads that are just doing it for the "look at me" factor but it's still been an overwhelming success.

A lot of people are just doing it because it's the popular thing to do. Some people do it without even knowing that it's for ALS.

I got challenged and I'm not doing the ice water. I'm donating $150 to ALSA and $200 to Team Gleason.
