What would you take for Griffin?

Do you think Griffin's old suitors, the Rams, called Mickey today?
What would you take in trade?

After last night I am not sold that he is the heir apparent and would definitely be listening

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

Considering that Kurt Cousins would probably fetch a rd 2 I feel that Griffin should get a rd5 with the chance it changes to a 4th.

They have a pretty good DL, I heard... :).
Or maybe a CB?

I say we trade for Gregg Williams and use him as a tackling dummy to demonstrate illegal hits

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

rd 4 would be great but I don't see it. 5th is good value.

4th round pick if they want him. 5th is not enough for him.

Both hands over my ear, Griffin is definitely the future for the saints

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

Nothing.

Griffin's value is greater than what we would receive in return; maybe a fifth round pick?!?

Trade McCown for a fifth/sixth round pick or get something in return...

Possible trade targets:

St. Louis Rams OL Barrett Jones - yes, he's injured, but this kid has got the goods and needs the opportunity; he could spend a year getting healthy and learning the system and then you've got a quality, developed linemen...

San Diego Chargers NT Kwame Geathers - still developing and could begin learning behind Bunkley and develop into a quality rotational NT with Big John Jenkins...

Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain/Bruce Carter - this one's up in the air as McClain has come on for the Cowboys and Carter may end up being odd man out; still, Cowboys have a gimpy QB in Romo and suspect backup may make Jerry make the trade for McClain...

Pittsburgh Steelers OT Mike Adams - Another troubled youth that could use a change of scenery and good offensive line coaching; very similar to Carl Nicks and could be a quality tackle developing behind Zach Strief...

Kwame Geathers hurt his knee tonight.

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

Everyone here says he would go for a fourth or fifth yet he is good enough to take over and fill Drews shoes as the future franchise Qb.

He's a good backup that can get it done enough to win maybe a few games when your starting Qb is out for a short period of time.
I don't see him being the future.

Keep Griffin
Trade McCown

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

Griffin had the misfortune of playing the 2nd half and without the starters, and they were all bad. I would not trade Griffin and I wouldn't think they would want McCowan. Griffin has a cannon and it showed last night.

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

Problem is by the time Drew retires Griffin will be in his 30's. I also don't think he is as good as everyone here thinks. Remember Chase was suppose to be our future.

It seems every young QB who becomes a Saint will be Drew successor. The Saints next great QB will NOT be an UDFA.

nothing less than an upgrade at LB

I bet the Bucs will trade them Glennon. First thing that came to my mind. Keep Griffin and put Kilgore on the PS. Just let McNown go and let the Rams pick him up.

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

Quite the conundrum isn't it?

Neither is the future, due to timing; and, neither is the present. Until, one of them becomes the present through happenstance like what happened to the Rams.

It is such a delicate balancing act that I would let the Rams worry about their problems and stand pat on QBs.

It is one thing to say a BU QB looks good in preseason, its a different animal to wake up minus a starting QB and say that guy is the everything as of now.

If indeed Griffin is what Payton sees as a Drew Brees type replacement then that isn't to be taken lightly and you don't just deal that sort of talent away. When you look at our receivers and what they can do, a cannon is what we would need to be able to maximize their speed and value.

I am still standing pat though. Not every opportunity should be exploited, some of them may come to bite you in the arse.

A conditional 4th, 3rd if he sees playing time in 2014

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

nothing. keep the kid. unless some one wants to sell the house to get him

if your looking at trade targets please be talking ILB that is solid in coverage. one you can rotate in and out with what we got. thinking along the lines of another Parys Haralson, type. hmmm i wonder how he would work out at ILB on passing downs if some one else steps up shows the skill set for pass coverage on the outside?

I have turned a new leaf on Griffin and don't think he'll make the team. Why would you trade for him when you think the Saints are going to cut him out right?

Because...
A-We might not cut him
B-Another team may claim him

based on his performance...?

I see us going with Luke and not keeping Griffin at all. He didn't show anything to me so far he could cut it as a starter or even a legit 2nd string back up if we don't have one. That is the only 2 reasons to give up anything for QB and I just don't see Griffin fitting in at either of them for any team at this point in the season.

If someone picks him up let them. I don't have a problem with someone having our scraps. You only have so many rosters spots and why trade for players now when you might as well sit tight until cuts happen.

Right now I would not entertain the idea..........right before the close of camp I might talk to suitors.

Your missing the Sean Payton x-factor. It may be intangible to us at this point but Sean made a move last season to keep Griffin a Saint.

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

One thing that nobody's mentioned, in the 5 pages of the other QB thread and the 3 pages of this one.

You're lining up to kick a game-winning field goal with the playoffs or more on the line (let's say maybe it's on the road, in Philly, in the wildcard round? Or maybe it's in overtime, in the NFC Championship game, or maybe a long, momentum-changing, early FG attempt when you are behind in the Super Bowl!).

Who do you want holding the ball, on that kick? The seasoned vet with ice water in his veins, or the young kid from Tulane?

Historically, in the Payton era, a young "project" #2 QB like we had in Chase Daniel was more the exception rather than the rule.... I get the impression that Payton sorta likes his backup QB/field goal holder/clipboard holder to be someone older, a veteran, who can see things in the Polaroids and add to the discussions on the sidelines or in the film room, give you another set of eyes. Not sure if Griffin gives you that dimension or not.

That's why in my gut I'm inclined to think that McCown stays, or equally likely we keep all 3.

Morstead was the holder before we signed McCown wasn't he?

I know Chase did it when he was here. Brunell did it before that. I think Morstead was only holding as a stopgap measure; I don't remember him doing it very frequently or for very long. It's weird because nowadays just as many punters out there probably hold on field goals as QB's. So for special teams holder I guess it's a choice between Luke "laces out in Seattle" McCown and Thomas "drops the snapped ball that hits him right on his hands in Seattle" Morstead. I don't know what to make of that choice!

So was Sam Bradford's until last Saturday.:p

But yeah, barring unfortunate injury we don't need a replacement for Drew for 3 or 4 more years. McCown AND Griffin will be long gone by then.

Re: What would you take for Griffin?

Griffin looked like a stud in the first two preseason games.

St. Louis. 16/23, 179 yards 7.8YPA 1 TD for a 107 passer rating
Tennessee 13/19, 179 yards 9.4YPA 2 TD for a 133 passer rating

But looked terrible Saturday,

Indianapolis 8/13 for 46 yards 3.5 YPA, 0 TD 1 INT, for a 36.1 passer rating.

I think the Indy game is an anomaly. The Indy D line was in his face immediately after the snap, his whole time in the game.

Between Griffin and McCown, I'd still keep Griffin.

I like him to but what I saw the last game and there is a reason he is 3rd for us...

Well he might get this week to redeem himself in final pre-season game, but as bad as he looked he didn't do himself any favors.
