That doesn't suck either.

The job security does suck, though.

I must be in the minority where $102k gross is a good deal for a brutal manual labor job where you run the risk of being crippled every time you go to work.

Might as well wrestle gators.

Yes, you are in the minority. He is making that for 7 months out of the year. Also, the guy is living his (along with millions of others) dream. I am a LEO and I work all year with the mindset of everyday could be the last for only 60K a year. Why do it? Because I am living my dream.

7 months? What about the offseason training?

Living the dream? To me, it seems like Tanner's lived a four year long nightmare of cuts, cuts and more cuts. Not to mention the constant doubt of EVER making the big time.

I read somewhere his total contract value for 4 years in N.O. was around $1.8mill

Consider yourself less than practice squad material

No American is more under compensated for his risk than the Combat Soldier. My gross pay for dodging 7.62mm, and T-72s was around $984.30/month. Wait.. that is incorrect, that was my gross pay to prepare for the dodging of 7.62mm and T-72s, the hazardous Duty pay for the actually dodging was $110/month.

You are living your dream, or is it a calling? Difference being that my dream consists of umbrella drinks on a Caribbean island. Andy Tanner is not living his dream, he is struggling with the reality that his dream may be nothing more than that. When I was 9, I wanted to be Super Man.. that didn't work out.

You also get benefits, practice squad players are paid like consultants.. day laborers.. There is no healthcare beyond the training facility for him or his family, there is no 401k contribution, stock awards, prescription card, dental for his children or wife.. there is that check and that is it. As far as it only being 6 months a year... Not many employers have well paying career openings for a person that is only available from February to May so the likely hood of him doubling down in a legal occupation is slim.

Tanners practice squad eligibility is up, what do you think his resume' looks like for a 26 year old hitting the job market? If you decide tomorrow that you do not want to be a cop there are avenues in security that you could take. Monster Jobs has no openings for Wide Receiver.

Mind you, my heart isn't bleeding for him. He woke up each and every day and decided to chase what he wanted to chase; and if Rudy didn't get to play in the end, the movie would have just been about the lives of millions of people. While you took exception to my question because he is paid 6 figures you missed my point.

I think the conversation has taken a wrong turn. My original comment was directed at Xan claiming he's done nothing to earn that money, which I think is false. Just because he didn't suit up on Sundays doesn't mean he didn't work his ass off all week like the rest of the team did.
