The Good and the Bad...

Haven't got a chance to re-watch yet, but at first glance...
While it always sucks to start 0-1, I am very excited about this season.
Good:
We have so many weapons on offense.
We scored 34 points on the road.
Mark Ingram. (good for him)
We have a very good running game.
Lofton looked pretty good.
When we blitzed it was disruptive.

Bad:
The defense is scary bad.
No pressure what so ever.
Poor tackling.
Sean Payton. (that's a big ego)
Wasn't Carmichael supposed to call plays?
Benching our run game in the first half.

This team reminds me of the 2011 squad. Awesome on offense, pours on defense. We went 13-3 that year. So I am not panicking at all.
ps. f the Falcons

Good-Offense, all of it
Bad- pass rush, coverages, tackling, turnovers, fan over-reactions

You will not win in the playoffs without a D. This whole season, even if we go 13-3 again, will just not win in the playoffs if we don't get our D fixed.

Not that I want our D to stay this porous, but the 2009 25th ranked Super Bowl winning defense would disagree with you.

Colston had 5 catches for 100 + receiving yards. His fumble was costly however he was anything but horrible.

He had 2 drops in the 4th quarter and fell over on an easy 3rd down conversion when he was wide open, his yardage came off the busted coverage which he nearly took the distance - then Brees threw a pick

I hope our defense gets fixed, looked like spags D

Colston fell after his feet got tangled with the defender's.

Defense = sucked
Offense = Hopeful

We will be signing a CB this week.

That's a little deception there. Our D scored 9 TDs that year and had the most turn-overs, and if you can re-call it was our D that got us in the Superbowl (porter pick against MIN) and our D that won us the Superbowl (porter picking Manning).

If we signed Greer how long do you think it would be before he would he was put in a game?

With or without a flux capacitor ?

If we score TDs instead of FGs, there is not even a discussion. And of course, Drew's bonehead INT. Defense obviously needs work. No way we compete with Seattle right now.

Re: The Good and the Bad...

The Good: Call me crazy, but I was more impressed with our offense today than at any point last year. Think this years offense could be better than the 2011 squad. Cooks really adds something to our team.

The Bad: The defense was horrible, theres no easy way around that. It's just one game though. The defense started slow last year too before kicking it into gear. It'll come around, just give it time... when it does, we'll be hard to beat.

Even if we won this game I would be just as concerned. The loss doesn't matter to me, it's how we lost that has many of us concerned.

Re: The Good and the Bad...

The good: It took two 50+ yard FG's and they could not beat us in regulation.

The bad: Payton's birth control eye glasses. Should have given them to Colston in the 4th quarter.

Re: The Good and the Bad...

Good - Cooks is good and will move the chains. He brings quickness and good route running. Ingram looks like the player he was in college. PT is the best backup/role player in the NFL. Robinson has the skills. The O-Line looked as good. Very solid. Graham hit his kicks.

Good and Bad - Brees was good. Not great. Missed on the deep throws. Graham made some good catches and will look good in the stats. But, big time players take over in key games and situations. He has come up short more than less in that department. Colston had some good plays and one critical turnover. Something he's done before.

Bad - Everyone connected to the defense. Scheme was bad. Gameplan was bad. Execution was horrible. Absolutely no adjustments throughout. The defensive line was a complete no show. Jordan, Bunkley, Hicks and JR were taken to task by at best an average NFL o-line. 3 QB hits on the stat sheet. P. Robinson is a waste of space. Vaccaro was shockingly invisible. Byrd looked like a guy in a new scheme without many reps. Sunseri needs to play over Bush. 42 passes. 26 rushes. (Cooks and Brees 1 carry each excluded.)

Re: The Good and the Bad...

The Good: Our offense looks more versatile than in previous years. The run game was strong, all our RB's got involved in the passing game, cooks was cooking graham and colston doing the usual

The Bad: Poor tackling, non-existent pressure on matt ryan, poor coverage technique (not sure why we're playing so far off on the receivers), linebackers that couldn't cover to save their life, sean payton abandoning the run game

At the very least I think we will be a better road team this year.

Sorry but: you lose to Falclowns it is all bad. Defense looked horrible and tired. Offensive line still can't run block. It will be a long year. And that is the good parts.

I beg to differ there. We left some rushing yards on the field due to us not running the ball as much as we could have. The team had about 140 rushing yards. And that was on the road. I think our oline will be fine.

Possibly. But we must have been watching different games. When it came to crunch time, their defense made a joke out of our o-line. I don't want to say it but...

there is hope for the defense. did you see all the help our defensive picks made? or did they all sit on the bench holding hands?

Like when we punched the ball in with under 2 minutes left in the game?

Re: The Good and the Bad...

Our defense made me sad. Sooooooo many third and longs converted and soooooo many third downs ALMOST converted like when Matt Ryan scrambled for 9 yards and almost got the first down. SIGH!!!!!

I mean you have to be kidding me. You have to be f**king kidding me!!!!

kicked in the teeth now lets see how they get up after being slapped all around the field.

Re: The Good and the Bad...

Good:Cooks, obviously. PT, Ingram and Robinson all looked great.
Bad:PRob and Vaccarro were useless. I saw a lot of plays where we rushed 4 and got good pressure but Ryan got rid of it real fast to PRob or Vaccarro's man. Either they've gotta cover better or we've gotta somehow hide them. Jimmy Graham looked disinterested. Not trying for possibly catchable balls, sliding or running out of bounds to avoid a one on one hit with a 200lb DB is unacceptable. He reminds me of Lance Moore with the ball in his hands.

Where were our feared pass rushers? Sorry play by the ends/ outside linebackers.

blackangold 09-07-2014 10:05 PM

Re: The Good and the Bad...

The Good:
Offense. Everything about the offense was what I expected; Cooks looked great, rushing attack was alive and Brees looked on target with plenty of time to throw. Play calling could have been better, I would have liked to see more running plays.

The only, and I do mean ONLY bright spot on defense was our ILB play. After watching the game over again Lofton and Hawthorne played really well aside from the Rogers TD. This is odd because everyone including myself thought they were the weak-spot.

The bad:
Defense. DBs and the D-line played awful. In-fact they played worse then the 2012 team did at any point during that season. Not kidding here, this defense gave up more yards in week 1 than our 2012 defense gave up in any game all year (and they were the worst ever).

Wow, okay. I guess we're supposed to score a TD on every possession. Because that has happened, to any team, ever...

Why do we even carry a kicker on our roster?

News flash: We scored 34 points. On the road. The offense was NOT the problem, today. I'll give you the turnovers, but having to settle for a FG every now and then is just a fact of life.

Its not deceptive and while I can hit a moving target, it is a little more difficult, but I can still hit it.

They were still the 25th ranked defense in yards and 20th in points allowed in 2009. Russell Wilson put up 310 yards and 3 TD passes on them. Our defense of 2009 was opportunistic, not lock down.

You were happy with last seasons defense weren't you? 24th in turn overs.

What is your focus? Yards, points, turnovers...

I do believe we forced a turnover yesterday.. no? The original statement was that we couldnt win in the playoffs with out a defense. Yes we can.

Not saying the 09 defense was better, just a turn-over machine and that helped us win.

2010 and 2013 defenses were far better than 09'.

If I had my choice for the defensive focus it would not relate to turnovers. Lock them down and make them earn every inch, turnovers will come.
