Yep - he can\'t catch, which is saying a lot comparatively to our WRs, and he\'s too dumb to learn the offense. :)

Mainly, too dumb. He\'s from Opelousas and he\'s still on his first coloring book.

Devery isn\'t the dumb one.
We activate 4-5 WR\'s every game
Horn
Pathon
Stallworth
Lewis

If we activate a 5th its going to be the one who contributes the most to special teams. That would be Gardner. From what I\'ve read he\'s a pretty good cover guy on special teams.

So Devery is on a team loaded with WR\'s. He isn\'t a neccessity, he\'s a luxury.

We spent a 2nd round pick (passed on ILB/OLB Donterrious Thomas) to pick a player that was completely and totally unneccessary.

Now who\'s the dumb one?

My guess is Devery was drafted with 2005 in mind. I believe some changes will be made during the offseason. This is my thought process on possible offseason changes at WR.

Joe Horn- Should be signed to a contract extension, if not could be released for cap reasons.

Donte Stallworth- Possible trade bait.

Jerome Pathon- Probably a salary cap cut.

Michael Lewis- Often injured the past couple years, may have lost a step. Doubt he will be back next year for the Saints.

Talman Gardner- Will be expected to make a bigger contribution, if not ready to assume the 3rd or 4th WR spot will probably be released.

The guy is as dumb as a bag or bricks. Don\'t play the \"2005 in mind\" card, if that\'s the case, they would get him some kind of playing time this season.

Dare I suspect a little derision in the ranks? Trust me, Devery is dumb as a bag of hair. But in the words of Forrest Gump, Dumb is as Dumb does. I\'d be willing to bet that Devery was drafted by LoomBoom (another bag of hair) because he\'s local (butts in the seats thingy) and because he\'s \"Fast.\"(another Hazlett exclusive)

When you figure that Fumbles the Clown isn\'t going to compete for the Rhodes Scholarship either, it is small wonder we are in distress. A dumbass GM, a dumbass HC, a dumbass OC, a dumbass QB, and now Devery, he comes into a long line of dumbasses. Seems like he\'d start with that pedigree, huh?

actually the organization said he was freaking amazing skills, but somewhere along the way he pissed haz off and he said he would not start him.... haz does not like him and wont start him....

Are you suggesting Haslett plays favorites? There are people on this board that would take offense to that, you know. LOL :)

Pathon will be at the end of his contract this year I believe.

I think Horn will be asked to take a small pay cut or be traded.

I don\'t think Lewis will make the team next year.

Beyond Don Thomas, we passed on further needs such as:

Michael Boulware - now starting at safety for Seattle
Madieu Williams - starting at safety for Cincinnati
Sean Jones - (was) starting at safety for Cleveland, I think he\'s hurt
Keiwan Ratliff - nickel back for Cincy (3rd on depth chart at CB behind Tory James and Deltha O\'Neal ... not bad company)
Shawntae Spencer - starting at CB for San Francisco

And if we just HAD to have a WR...

Darius Watts - Denver\'s #3 WR
Keary Colbert - stepped in nicely for Steve Smith this year in Carolina

These are players taken after Devery Henderson in just the 2nd round. We\'re not even activating a guy who was taken before promising starters for other teams. Devery showed a little ability in the preseason, when competing against flunkies of his calibre, but even then he didn\'t seem able to run any route except the ol\' sandlot, \"just run straight out and I\'ll throw it to you.\" So much for Saban\'s knack for developing talent.

At least we got Courtney Watson that round...

Yeah, because if Haz really said Henderson pizzed him off and is refusing to play him because of it then I\'d like to see a link to the article that quotes him saying it. ;)

Quote:

McCarthy said he would feel comfortable playing Henderson in certain situations. But he said other receivers give the Saints a better chance to win.

\"Devery\'s a raw talent, and he\'s got a lot of good football ahead of him,\" McCarthy said. \"We\'re going to have to make him fit. He has a lot of the similar qualities that you have in Donté, so in a sense we have similar guys. Then we have Joe Horn as our flanker. We\'re going to have to make a decision on what direction we have to go to get all three of those guys on the field at the same time. It\'s something we could do tomorrow if we had to.

\"The problem is Devery\'s a split end and he\'s behind Donté and Jerome. If Devery were a flanker, there would be more opportunities for him to play.

...

\"There are two trains of thought,\" Haslett said. \"If you say I\'m going to play some young guys and see how they do, that says to the players that the coaches don\'t care and they\'re worried about next year.

\"I\'m not going to give that illusion, because I don\'t believe that. I think you try to win as many games as you can, because you only get 16 games. If you want to look at guys, that\'s what you have preseason for and next year for. I\'m going to worry about this year.\"

In defense of the Henderson pick an aging Horn was hobbled quite a bit last year and Donte\'s health was a major major concern. We suffered quite a few injuries at WR and I think they showed their desperation. It also typically takes a couple of years to develop a WR so maybe Henderson was 2005 Horn/Stallworth insurance. Of course, for a player to develop he\'d actually have to play, IMHO. ;)

Well....this list of names would have been a little more impressive if you\'d posted it BEFORE the draft, rather than with two games left in the season....
