CB - Chris Houston
I noticed Chris Houston was still available via free agency. I feel like he could be a great #2 for our team. He's a man to man guy. Good speed. Would give us more depth. Somebody provide those in depth analytics and numbers. Where you at Oak and Danno?

Re: CB - Chris Houston
I like CH. Makes me wonder why he's still in FA.

Make it happen Loomis.

Re: CB - Chris Houston
Not opposed to kicking the tires, but I remember discussing him last year and the consensus was his tank is empty
|
Re: CB - Chris Houston
He ranked 96th out of 110 corners last season.
I read quite a few Lions fans that not only wanted him gone but slowly tortured on his way out. |

Those guys might come in and hit the ground running, but it wouldn't be the first time some defensive players with some hype failed to make the team/an impact Chip Vaughn and Stanley Arnoux immediatedly come to mind from that terrific Wake Forest defense |

The CB and Linebackers may not be the best but they got us into the playoffs last season. And we have depth at both positions. There have been several people on here that have suggested Humber should start ahead of Hawthorne. Corey White ended up starting after being 4th on the depth chart. These same personnel made up the 2nd best pass defense and the 4th best defense overall in both yardage and scoring. They may not be top 5 again this season but they should be close. And they're young enough, they'll be back next season. On the other hand... We have NO depth at any offensive line position. In the preseason Bryce Harris was bad and Senio Kelemete was terrible. If one of the Big Uglies goes down for any length of time, the Saints are hosed for the season. Only one of the 5 starters is under 30. Even if they do make it through this season, how many more seasons will they last? The Saints will have to replace 4 over the next few years and they're going to be pretty cash strapped to try to build almost an entire line through free agency. Just my 2¢. |

Would you give a 1st for tyrann ? Or tampas David ? Or Suh that may eradicate the need for a corner if we could get immense pressure

Re: CB - Chris Houston
Why are we looking at outside CBs. What about the CB we just cut, Rod Sweeting? Payton said he didn't get enough snaps to evaluate him.

Re: CB - Chris Houston
I'd prefer a proven commodity.

Re: CB - Chris Houston
I firmly believe that if a CB is on the street, its probably because he's just not that good.
Its the most coveted position on defense and every team is in desperate need of them. For 32 teams to pass on him says a ton. I'm guessing Loomis and company have a list of CB's they like if we need one, and they've shown time and time again they aren't afraid to sign on or claim one off of someone's practice squad. I think what we have is as good as it gets for 2014. No one sitting on their couch today is as good as Lewis, Robinson, White, or Dixon. If we needed more depth we'd just bring Sweeting back. |
Re: CB - Chris Houston
I thought Houston did okay last year against most of the receivers outside the five of the big six (Marshall was shut down in Ford or kept out of the ez, Thomas also probably wouldn't burn him as his stats are inflated by Manning), especially at home.

Re: CB - Chris Houston
We could have Aeneas Williams, Mike Haynes and Rod Woodson in their primes, rotating, and it wouldn't matter with the pass rush we got from Galette and Jordan...
Yeah, White has ball location issues, but he made some pretty da*n good plays, especially breaking up a two-man bubble screen by himself - I don't get all the venom toward the small-school 5th round pick... We've got good corners, what we need and aren't likely to find walking the street are pass rushers; and we surely shouldn't be giving contract extensions for the pass rush we saw in Atlanta... |
Re: CB - Chris Houston
We rarely ever bring in anyone worth a damn after we create our final roster. Usually sign a scrub or two back and forth from the practice squad but I can't remember the last time we got anyone worth a damn in a trade or in free agency after the season started.

Pretty slim chance of a cut player from another team making an impact, and no one makes trades. Leaves a PS player maybe getting a chance (Armstead) |

Rafael Bush was signed after teams announced the final rosters.
