"On this date" in New Orleans Saints history - Sept. 11 - a spotlight on the Saints for your day:

1983--Saints lose in Anaheim to the Rams, 30-27. The temperature was 100 degrees, and smog affected both teams. Saints take lead in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ken Stabler to Eugene Goodlow. The Rams eventually come back thanks to an Otis Grant 57-yard run that led to 3-yard score by Eric Dickerson.

1988--Saints win first game of the year, 29-21 at Atlanta. Morten Andersen kicked his 100th career field goal in the second quarter and became the NFL's all-time most accurate kicker (.782).

1989--Saints linebacker Rickey Jackson is injured during a wreck while driving a borrowed sports car. He undergoes a 3 1/2 hour surgery to reconstruct his cheek bone. Some thought he would miss several weeks, but instead he only missed two games.

1994--Saints lose home game to the Redskins, 38-24. The Saints score their first-ever regular season two-point conversion on a pass from Jim Everett to Torrance Small.

2005--Saints win on opening day at Carolina, 23-20, a very emotional game considering the recent aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that struck New Orleans 13 days earlier. Saints kicker John Carney boots the winning 47-yard field goal with seven seconds left.
