Saints Not Giving Up on CB Patrick Robinson, Despite His Struggles

Last week, head coach Sean Payton called Robinson in for a 1-on-1 meeting to provide a little inspiration. Payton gave Robinson a long list of starting cornerbacks who at one time struggled, were demoted, then returned to the starting line up, stronger and better for the experience.

we can ill afford not to really. but the way we are using him now is not working for him. he maybe fast, he maybe quick. But his reaction time to this huge cushion he play now is not working. put him in the hip pocket of the WR in press coverage. give him safety help over the top. God knows they are lining up deep enough also.

give it a shot it can not hurt any more than it already has.

If this don't wake him up he is in deep water drowning. I surely thought he could handle the #2.

He's played too well at times in the past to not deserve a second chance. Maybe he just needs to learn the defense better? It's really shocking how bad he has been considering the promise he showed in this defense just one year ago.

Regardless, it has to be his last year in a Saints uniform.

Unfortunately P Rob doesn't appear to be very smart. I just don't see him turning it around.

P Rob did not play. Opposing team did not score a touchdown.

Payton needs Robinson to play well. SJB and Dixon are nowhere near ready.

Bet if we had depth there wouldn't have been any 1 on 1 meeting.

Payton cuts bait when it doesn't work

P Rob actually did play last Sunday. Regulated to special team/punt coverage duties.

It's not his physical abilities, it's his cabasa.

SEE, this is what a CLASS ORGANIZATION does. Instead of throwing him totally under the bus, you give him a pep talk and put the ball back in his corner, metaphorically, where he controls his own destiny and fate. What Patrick Robinson wants to do personally -- to bounce back and be a starter again -- it CAN be done. People have done it. Payton can still be mad at him, Payton can still be making plans to go forward without him, he is STILL in the doghouse. But at least the "Prob" has got a chance and some motivation to fix himself....

For better or worse, Payton kinda needs him right now, we have no depth, at least temporarily...it's a mess. Unfortunately Prob still has one year left on his deal. $1.2825 million + some chunk of his guarantee, is probably too much to pay for someone who only runs down the field on punt returns. There is a chance (albeit slim) that P-rob could catch on somewhere else. So this way with this pep talk, we can at least try and get SOMETHING worthwhile out of Prob, besides garbage, while he's still here. I love how Payton handled it.

PS I don't have time to look it all up, but I'm pretty sure, that at least some of those CB guys on that list who struggled and came back to be starters, did their comebacks for different teams besides the ones they started out on. So I still kinda feel like P-Rob is pretty much gone pecan.

Agreed. If we were playing the same style of defense we were last year I think he would be solid. Zone defense requires quick thinking and adjustment. That's just not in his game. On the right team, in the right defensive scheme, I still think he could be a solid piece. But his time with the Saints is probably all but gone.

Agreed. When he actually hits the gas I've seen explosive physical talent from him. He's probably our fastest corner.

If Robinson could gain 50lbs, he'd be our fastest LB
