Making the Playoffs - Sacred Math

Someone will post the Jim Mora rant, I'm bettin'. But rational folks, lend me your ears...I'll give them back.

FACT: 1-3 Overall
FACT: 0-3 Road record
FACT: 1 game back in the NFC Turd Bowl South
FACT: 7 of next 12 games at home
FACT: Bye Week is after Sunday vs Tampa
FACT: 5 road games left in DET, CAR, PIT, CHI, and TB. Two of those are potentially bad weather games in PIT (NOV 30) & in CHI (DEC 15th)

There's a high probably we will NOT sweep at home this year considering the competition...to sweep GB, BAL, SF, CIN at home in that 5 game span is unlikely to put it kindly...we lose 2 of them. So, if we have a 6-2 home record with all division wins, there is an excellent chance of squeaking into that "impossible" playoff berth.

Now, does that road schedule really frighten anyone? We will not beat both TB and CAR on the road, but we will win one of those. We will not beat both PIT and CHI, but we will win one of those. That leaves the Detroit game. If we win that, guess what our road record will be? 3-5.

6-2 at home
3-5 on the road
4-2 in the division
9-7 and good enough to win this turd division.

OR...we just simply quit, end it at 1-15, and I'll break out the ol' Aints bag from its long retirement & fiddle as Rome burns.

Carolina last year
Week 1 - LOSS
Week 2 - LOSS
Week 3 - WIN
Week 4 - LOSS

Finished with the 2nd best record in the NFC.

I'm willing to believe, but I have to see it with my own eyes.
  • Offense: fixable. Still lacks depth on offensive line, but could improve if disciplined.
  • Defensive line: may not be fixable.
  • Linebackers: LB's forced to plug holes our d-line cannot fill (they are secondary assistance d-linemen).
  • Safeties: Young and New Safties will have to learn quickly how to play the Saints Hybrid LB/Ball Hawk role.

If we can somehow get some cohesion on both sides of the ball, I'm willing to believe. Otherwise I have no opinion other than our record currently speaks for itself and will speak for itself in the near future.

Ok so we make the playoffs. Then what. All that gives us is an excruciating season to watch without the reward of a Super Bowl or good draft pick.
No way in hell this team wins a road game in the playoffs. If we had home field advantage with the team we have right now we would still be one and done.

There was no way we'd win @ PHI last year either. And getting a better draft position as a reward?

Our team is pathetic on the road, the numbers in this case don't lie and its getting hard to ignore

We will need a miracle to get .500 record this year

How is beating Tampa at home this week, then the Bye Week getting healthy & fixing this turd of a team, then beating Detroit on the road a miracle?

3-3 is not out of the question. If we play like we did last night and against Cleveland, then I will wholeheartedly agree with you that it would be a miracle to see .500.

Well unfortunately for us, there is no indication we are capable of playing any better than we have the past 4 weeks, I'm not in the slightest bit confident that this team can beat Detroit or Tampa bay.

dizzle really? ok i know you're upset about our miscues but i told you we didnt look strong from the start. now we're down 1-3 and to be hones that's where we need to be. as i said before going into this year's season we had to much pressure of living up to everyone expectations that we lost focused on who we were as a unit. now that everyone is giving up on the saints (even you) we'll go on our magical run. (remember the giants a few years ago weren't they like 0-6 and went to and won the superbowl) so why wouldnt the saints duplicate that type of season? its still a lot of football left now if this were week 7 and we were 3-4 then i'll get a lil worried but until then stay true homie.

I'm not giving up on the team, I'll be here to the end its just disappointing to watch the team massively underachieve, especially when we all had such high hopes for the season

The only time I'll go back on my statement is if we see radical changes in scheme and play style, but unfortunately I'm not holding my breath for that because the coaching staff are delusional

Unless there are some radical changes across the board, I won't be confident with this team at all.

Right on, man. Judging the season through the first 4 games, I wouldn't be confident either. But we're lucky the bye is early this year to fix some stuff. Refreshing, radical changes would be:
1) NEVER let Morstead try a punter option read on 4th & 9 down by 2 TDs in the 4th quarter on the road. Should be a given, and sounds even stupider when I read this out loud. FIXABLE
2) Secondary communication - abysmal the first 4 games. FIXABLE
3) Can we re-hire Dimke? I can at least forgive him for missing a 41 yard field goal. Graham doesn't have an excuse. FIXABLE
4) Give the play-calling back to the OC. FIXABLE
5) Get better middle linebacker play. NOT FIXABLE
6) Get a better pass rush WITHOUT blitzing. FIXABLE, but doubtful

What playoffs?

Re: Making the Playoffs - Sacred Math

If we win the south, it will be as the 3rd or 4th seed but we will likely this time go to Arizona, and it may be better to go there in the NFCCG instead of Divisional but for that to happen we need to have the 3 seed or for the 3 seed to lose in the wild card round. Assuming we win the south(which I'm not sure), this is how I see it going.

1.Arizona
2.Philadelphia or Dallas(Houston week 9 for Philly, Chicago week 14 for Dallas determines this)
3.NO/Det/Chi(think GB misses this time)
4.NO/Det/Chi
5.Dallas or Philadelphia
6.Seattle or Atlanta

Make of that what you will.

I think week 8 is the week to watch and week 11, if we beat the packers and bucs lose to vikings and we beat the bengals I will feel better about our chances. But bucs could be 4-4 after week 9 otherwise with a home division game against Atlanta looming.

Let's admit it, Dallas rolled us over. The defense had very few stops on 3rd down and the offense never got rolling till the 4thQ and a fake punt that was horrible. They seem to have lost their direction. I don't think coach knows how to turn it around. I think he is just as confused as we are.

Maybe the best thing for us was to get embarrassed on national TV. It worked for Tampa this week, and we'd better worry about that TB team. Glennon is a pretty decent QB with some good receivers, and Martin running the ball ain't no joke. We won't roll 42-17 like last year...this ain't 2013. We fall to 1-4 and 0-2 in the division...well...disregard this "sacred math" thread. We will not get to .500 until it's too late, if at all.

We will beat Tampa and it won't be close.

I guarantee it.
