Saints know they must get better fast

On paper, the Saints trailed the two teams ahead of them in the NFC South standings as of Monday by one win.

However, unless they vastly improve the way they’ve played in losing three of their first four games this season, the Saints know the distance between them and Atlanta and Carolina (both 2-2) will only grow as their season progresses.

Coach Sean Payton said:

As soon as I read "on Paper" I stopped reading.

You can have the best roster on the planet - "on paper" it doesn't win you a Super Bowl.

Sounds like they are in denial. Do they really think if they do not improve immediately they can be 7-9 or 8-8?

If they tighten up and win a few of the games we thought could go either way mid season, we'll still finish where we thought we would be.

The defense needs to be shocked back to life though, tightening up just does not do what needs to happen there justice.

We will be ok guys! After this week (#5)...we will be tide with both Atlanta & Carolina @ 2-2!

I think you mean 2-3, but I get it.

Atlanta likely loses at NY, but Chicago at Carolina is a toss-up.

We could be tied, but either way I like our chances in the division.
