Nah, Byrd is a long term investment. Injury aside, not gonna judge him after zero preseason and 4 games.

How many people here scream that we never acquire any of the "big name" free agents ? Now we get one (arguably top 3 available that year) and it was a bad decision?

I'm fine with the Byrd signing. Add a stud CB next year and he'll be back on top

Don't get me wrong, if we can make a splash in free agency, let's do it...

But the guy has not been the poster child of health...

And the warning flags were clearly there...

I had cautious optimism upon his signing; not gonna sugar-coat it, but I'm frustrated with the results...

We needed this guy to make a positive, season-long, immediate impact...

Granted scheitt happens, but c'mon, the warning flags were there...

And as a General Manager, you gotta have an out-clause of a deal that carries so much injury risk...

Homeruns with Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, and Keenan Lewis and the one good year with Sharper...

But, we've done a pretty scheitty job in free agency otherwise...

Since we signed a TE, does that mean Ball is 100%?

Excellent question...

Probably overthinking things, but is the signing of a tightend meant to throw the next opponents off the scent that Graham will be back?!?

I think the simplest explanation I've heard so far for this, is that Payton's newest current toy, TE Josh Hill, also plays special teams. With Graham out, and Watson a little gimpy (groin injury), we can't afford to have Hill get injured when he's out there banging on special teams and kicking units. Need somebody to fill in there, upgrading Hill to pure "offense"... then when Graham comes back, Hill goes back to TE/ST combo duty, and everything goes back to normal. It's not a conspiracy theory or a problem with Jimmy Graham. Just that if Josh Hill went down with an injury on a punt return in practice right now, we'd be screwed.

Agreed. Not to mention having another blocking tightend with a bit of a nasty streak that can catch a little bit isn't a bad thing. I'm hoping that the graham injury forces us to lean on the run a little more. Especially with the possibility that ingram returns after the bye.

it happens. now i wonder were Nixon is? oh he is minnesota. so we get what? crabs at TE? i do not get this team use of the PS and signing of players. no fore sight. heck run with the TE we have now. Go with a more traditional set and a few more jumbo sets.

but no we sign crab nix nixon and when 2015 rolls around neither will be here.

Crabtree was released by the Bucs in May after an injury-plagued 2013

Wait one minute he is not proven as a starter but there is talent there.

Special teams - yep
good blocker - yep
pass catcher - jury is still out

:bugeyes:lets see what happens. Ben Watson is a FA in 2016 with only 400k dead money for 2015.

Hill looked pretty good
He and Watson worked well together

how about a CB or LB?

absolutely.
cut Graham, or at least bench him
I bet he's not even hurt
