Report: Saints coach Sean Payton says injured running back Mark Ingram might return for Lions game

Ingram is arguably the best player on the roster right now. Not sure if risking further injury or more turnovers, (God knows Brees is doing his part in that dept), is the smart thing to do.

Payton said Ingram's hand is still enveloped in a cast, but he believes he could play in a smaller, padded cast when the Saints visit Detroit after their bye this week.

"With the fracture that he had, which is right where the thumb and hand kind of go together, you gradually just reduce what he's having to wear," Payton said, via ESPN. "And he's probably, I would say, three or four weeks away from not having to wear anything. But right now, there's a chance he plays in the next game."

KRob and Pierre Thomas are doing just fine Coach. No need to rush Roll Tide back before he is 100%.

What's better than a two headed monster? A three headed one.

I don't know about the best .... he was playing very, very well .... with alot of passion and conviction. But, I agree with KMajor, don't bring him back till he's 100% -- but -- make him sit on the sideline to remind the team of his spirit and motivate everybody.

Detroit's got a similar situation with Megatron and I'm of similar opinion, let 'em sit until their 100% or to the point they're not gonna' keep reinjuring themselves ... especially when they're one of your more valuable, skilled position players.

I don't like the idea of him playing with a cast. With the few carries Payton dials up, Robinson and Thomas can handle that load. Also, you don't want Ingram getting hurt again or his playing one handed exposing to team to possible turnovers.

do not risk further injury to ingram
do risk the turnover possibility either

Let him sit until he's 100 percent because we are gonna need him down the stretch.

If I were a defender I'd be chopping at that hand and not worry about the tackle. Just keep chopping. He'll either reinjure it or he'll fumble.

Edit: Well, it works in rugby.:itsgood:
