BREAKING NEWS: Calvin Johnson to sit until healed; fat lady sings

Hot off the presses ... call it propaganda or whatever ... it's all over sportstalk in Detroit as well ... Calvin is most likely out for Sunday, :(. Can you score 14pts Saints fans? Two touchdowns & maybe a field goal? ... because that's pretty much all it will take, ... Stafford is a lost puppy without Megatron,.

"Like I said, there's no point in being on the field if I can't go out there and do what I got to do," Johnson said Wednesday. "Do what I got to do and do it to a high level that I'm used to doing it at."

Johnson missed his first game of the season Sunday against Minnesota, and both he and his coach, Jim Caldwell, have been noncommittal about whether Johnson will face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday ... Read More: Calvin Johnson to sit until healed | abc7chicago.com

Let's not put this in the W column just yet. I'll agree to be cautiously optimistic.

Famous last words of a fool?

You would hope Megatron being out is great for the Saints, but we have made third stringers look pretty damn good.

I hope the defense has rediscovered it's Mojo.

You would think with Golden Tate, Reggie Bush, Joique Bell, Eric Ebron, Jeremy Ross and a few others to throw to, losing Calvin wouldn't be that big a deal ... but I'm telling ya', it's like Stafford has "muscle memory" and can only throw to Johnson ... it's really been an issue this year when Calvin's been on the sidelines ... Stafford's numbers go way down.

This whole game is pissing me off,. I've been waiting three years since the last meeting of these two teams, hoping for a decent matchup, in my house, and we got injuries, suspect defenses, compromised offensive line, yada, yada, yada ... at least Schwartz is gone, so we know the post game handshake with Payton will go smoothly,.

I have never gone along with that bogus crap from some fans that say they want to face the opponent at full-strength. I hope every one of them limp in to the game. I have fully expected Johnson to sit this game as he has been useless the past couple of weeks. And I agree with Slomo, the Lions are a different team without Johnson on the field. The Saints need this win badly and I will take any advantage we can get.

No kidding, I'll gladly take a Detroit forfeit due to all 53 players being hurt.:p

Taterhead Tate, Bush and those TE's are gonna be plenty for Stafford if we can't get a freakin' pass rush.

You'd think so, but MattFord's so focused on having Megatron out there all the time that when he's out, it's like watching Kirk Cousins (WAS) out there,. Honestly, I was beginning to think the way they've brought in all these offensive weapons & coaching for Stafford that if he didn't have a good year, they'd be looking to replace him ... and he's not having that great a year. Just sayin',.

This game will be similar to the Dallas game.

Even without Megatron, if the Lions bring their A game and the Saints just go through the motions, then the Saints will drop below the failclowns in the division.

Bush will be motivated against the Saints, but I don't think he will be much of a factor Sunday. The only other Lions players I can name besides Johnson is Stafford, Bush and Joique Bell.

Since I am a Homer I am going to call a Saints win 34-17.

Taterhead, lol awesome. I can't stand that a-hole Tate. Get ready to see him celebrate on a first down catch and god forbid a touchdown.

We are going against a slew of ex-saints (Jed Collins, Reggie, Bell, and Lombardi) and we all know how they like to have great games against us:(

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Calvin Johnson to sit until healed; fat lady sings

To me CJ is the only difference maker. They have weapons, but we have never had an answer for top receivers like Johnson. He blew us up in the playoff game, but luckily they self-destructed.

Put Lewis on Tate, let the other DB's help with run support

Almost like Saints North, ain't it?

I have to admit I just loved what Jed did here. Taking nothing away from Austin Johnson, though, and it's also rumored we're gonna see Bigfoot this weekend wearing a #41 Saints jersey in Detroit.

All we need to know is that this is a road game & we have not won one since the playoffs.

I think you forgot whose defense Stafford is facing. :(

I think we all saw first-hand how beneficial it was to have Josh Gordon out.

Nah ... in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter that much to me who wins this one and I can be equally glad regardless of outcome. I got friends here, :).

Pre-SuperBowl Saints/Ain'ts fans can probably relate to where I'm at with the Lions as a fan, ;). I've seen 'em blow too many games like this ... Wk #5 (BUF) being the most recent example,.

New Orleans/Detroit are kindred souls, IMO ... so much so, JaredAllen (CHI) was quoted as hating to travel to each equally for games,.

That Gordonless team has only lost ONE game and is in FIRST place in the AFC North. They are proving to be a far more impressive team than what we thought they were coming into week two.

Why is there no love for Golden? Having Falcons-West as part of his resume is a red flag, but so far in Detroit he seems to be a solid guy ... am I missing something? Is this guy locker room poison?

I think NOLA54 has made the best point.

THIS IS A ROAD GAME, REMEMBER!!!!!! - Gulp!

The media are already saying that Drew is going to struggle against the strong Lions D.

Hope we prove them wrong and get our first road game win but I think it will be tough!

GEAUX SAINTS!!!

There's quite a bit of hate for him when we played the Hawks twice last season

Basically he tried to make out he was a big time player squaring up to our players, until he met rafael bush, it only took one hit and Tate was not heard from the rest of the game

The three teams that beat us this year so far... Calvin Johnson didn't play for them, either.

Means nothing. We will fight for this win if we can get it.

GEAUX SAINTS!!!

Media hype ... they built their rep on the Giants (on MNF, which was this year's "SuperBowl" for Detroit, IMO), a Packer team without a game plan (that's gonna' smoke 'em in Dec, ;)), the NYJ & the Vikings ... IDK about you guys, but I'm expecting Brees & the Saints to put up a better showing than any of those teams, and even Carolina/Buffalo, the two mediocre franchises on the schedule that did manage to beat the Lions.

I'd honestly be surprised if the Lions (without Calvin) pulled this one off. :)

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Calvin Johnson to sit until healed; fat lady sings

Depends on which defense boards the plane for Detroit - the 2012 or the 2013 version.

If it is the former, then the Lions have little to fear.
