Shop Jimmy Graham?

Was just watching NFL Network (like I normally do when I come home from work) and two of the analyst agreed that the Saints should shop Jimmy Graham for draft picks. I highly doubt this happens due to us just signing him but with how the season is going so far do you see the Saints begin the "rebuilding process" with a few draft picks?

Not sure. Some teams have made successes by trading away talent. In this case I would say probably not though. It makes for good TV I guess but I believe we are a better team with him than without + draft picks.

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

If we continue to play the way we have for the past 6 games, we won't need to shop JG for draft picks we'll get them based on our record.

Not going to happen folks.

Wow, really?

Possibly our best player and only real mismatch?

BTW: It would cost us 12 million against our cap to trade him.

So we would lose Jimmy Graham AND 12 million in cap room.

Loomis would have to be the dumbest GM on the planet (and every other planet that may sustain human life in the entire Universe and all other Universes as well) to shop Jimmy Graham.

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

If not for the cap ramifications I'd trade him. Not for picks though. I'd swap him for a legit #1 WR. A top LB or CB. An elite offensive lineman. Something along those lines.

Well if not for NFL draft rules I'd draft a CB, OC, OG, WR, CB, DT, DE and 2 LB's in the 1st round.

2 firsts and a second or something along those lines sounds enticing. I love Jimmy, and I hope he retires a Saint, but its always good to weigh your options.

I suggest you read all the posts before you post.

Give Brees the protection he had in 09 and it doesn't matter who's running the routes.

No doubt. Just look at the 2014 Cowgirls. There is a reason Demarco Murray is rushing for 100+ yards just about every week.

Who would want an overpaid over rated TE that is only good for 2/3 of a season? We made that bed and have to lay in it now. I love Jimmy don't get me wrong but he got too much money for what he brings to the table.

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

In theory there is not a player on this team I wouldn't trade if we could find a better.

Why are you contradicting yourself? At first you say you would trade Jimmy, but then you say if you can find a better.

The record books, "experts", just about everyone, says that Jimmy is the best TE in the league; so who is better?

I just hope Jimmy doesn't go missing in big games in the future.

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

If we didn't have to take the 12 Mil cap hit that danno pointed out then I'd be for it, we haven't had Graham for the past two weeks and offense did well (until late vs Detroit)

I do agree that we need to start stockpiling picks, we have roughly 6 picks per draft, 3 of them every year end up getting cut and we have nothing to show from our draft.

The patriots have about 10 picks per draft and always seem to be there in the postseason every year.

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

If anyone was willing to give upthe picks they would have done last year.
Even the top teams who pick 25-32 each year were not willing to give up two firsts why would they now

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

Jimmy makes his money because he is a dominating red zone performer. While I still believe his overall skills leave a lot to be desired, there is no doubt about his ability to catch passes in tight spots. With that said I am still on the fence regarding the big long term contract, but since that was done I do not see a situation that would warrant him being traded. Even on a full rebuild, which you should know the Saints will not do until Brees is gone, I would think he would be considered an asset while rebuilding a team.

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

Once a player starts having significant injuries (feet, shoulders, knees) in quick succession, there are a couple of problems besides the obvious.

1- Trying to come back to quickly
2- Practice does not involve repetition of proper techniques
3- Severity of prior injuries requires physiomechanical adjustments that set up future injuries.

This appears to be a big trend for Graham. He has been seriously injured each of the last 3 seasons. It may be that his future impact may be compromised, opening up the possibility for a trade to get max value before he becomes unable to play and the contract is dead money.

I actually like this idea. Of course this whole thread is a fairy tale, so here's mine. Jimmy Graham for Le'Vontae David, straight up.

We missed our chance for this before his contract.

Rule #1, don't watch NFL network.

Re: Shop Jimmy Graham?

I wish we would have made him play for tag money. We wouldn't have to worry about his ailments or a big contract. Loomis screwed the pooch on this 1 but it's not his first in overpaying players or keeping them well past their use.
