I wouldnt write the Saints off just yet
After calming down I have come to believe that its not time to cash it in just yet. The games before the bye we flat out sucked. Bad. The sucky thing about it is that we sucked because of stupid mistakes like dropped passes and dumb interceptions because Brees would toss the ball up for grabs instead of taking a sack. Not to mention the missed tackles and everything else. Good thing about these mistakes are that all of them can be corrected. Sunday I saw a team that was much improved and seemed to have corrected a lot of those mistakes. Yes we blew it in the end but the way we played was an improvement. We actually looked like a competent team for 3 1/2 quarters.
It shows me that the talent is here. They can continue to improve and if they do who knows. Lucky for us the division sucks and we have just a good a chance of winning it as anyone. We win the division and get these mistakes fixed we can get clicking at the right time and who knows what. All I am saying is that I saw flashes Sunday. If they can tap into that is yet to be seen, but its still a long season. 8-8 could very well win this division. |

You have to be bipolar... I've never seen someone who can go from Chicken Little negative to sunshine up the wazoo positive so quickly...

Giving away stupid penalties hasn't helped either.
It would be interesting to know where we are ranked in regard to giving away penalties this season. |
Re: I wouldnt write the Saints off just yet
Hail, fellow Saint in Aus.
I was walking about the office proclaiming to my staff that the saints would win the division, and win their first playoff. They promised to greet me as the 'God of Football' if it happens, so I am pretty excited. I can see it happening. the Division is weak and, if games were 3.98 quarters long and not 4, we'd be about 5-1. Losing makes you strong, so we are bulking hard and just about ready to go massive!! Watch up smash GB this weekend. Who dat! Whoooop! |

Re: I wouldnt write the Saints off just yet
I think they need to come out the tunnel on Sunday night and be loose, pumped up, feeling good, and HAVE FUN. Everything has been so yucky and stressful so far, the one thing that's been missing from every game since preseason, is FUN. Interceptions and penalties and pressures and late collapses....all these junky football plays are STRESSFUL. They're hard on the fans, they're hard on the players, they're hard on the team chemistry.
Nobody on the team is having any FUN playing the game, or enjoying BEING AWESOME at what they do. If they can clean up the mistakes and stop the self-destruction and get that swagger back, I say look out. I feel like they need ONE big play on Sunday night, like Meachem's strip against Washington, or one of Jimmy's famous diving catches, an unexpected blocked punt or a bit of Payton playcalling razzle-dazzle, to douse this dumpster fire and be RIGHT back to looking like the Saints of old. ONE BIG PLAY could get the Dome roaring, and then the Saints would suddenly be IN this game. They need to have one of those games where Payton just winds the whole team up and then lets it go, spins it like a child's top, and lets it go spinning around crashing into stuff. If they play a flat, dull, lifeless home game like they did against Minny or Tampa Bay, they will get CRUSHED. The thing is, they are so DUE for this kind of game; like the rout of the Panthers in prime time last year, that basically defied all logic if you compared it to the rest of the season and the game we played against the same team two weeks later. How did the Saints even do that? They had the swagger, that's how! |

I can remember in 2011 when we played the giants, we got the ball back with 50 seconds to go in the half and the commentators were like "New Orleans will probably run the clock out here and go into half time" BANG - out route to colston that he takes 53 yards, TD before half time and we are 27-10 up, getting the ball back in the 2nd half We really need to see something like that |
Re: I wouldnt write the Saints off just yet
There's still a lot of football to be played. Relax.

Re: I wouldnt write the Saints off just yet
Last minute collapses like this rarely turn into victories the next week.
Since this has been bizarro season, we'll win by two TDs. |

Last year, we lost to the Jets on the road in a feeble, fairly miserable effort, then shellacked the Cowboys at home the next week under the prime time lights. We lost to the Bucs on the road in 2011, the time when Payton broke his leg during the game, then we obliterated the hapless Colts the next week by 62-7 or whatever it was. In 2010, we lost that stupid moronic game to the Browns, and then trounced the Steelers at home (that one wasn't a high scoring game but it was pretty epic). Like I said, maybe last-minute collapses is a different stat. I think a bit more often than they don't, Payton and the Saints seem to turn it around at home in prime time, after they have one of those type of games the week before. We collapsed on the final play against the Patriots last year up in Foxboro, then came back after our bye in the Benz and waltzed all over the Bills. 35-17. |

But, and this is a BIG but, our record is not who this team CAN BE -- THIS YEAR. And, that is what is frustrating -- to everyone. That this team is blowing a shot at the playoffs and maybe even a SB run. I know, I know -- we are who our record says we are -- and in this moment -- it's true. But, it doesn't HAVE to be. Not like freaking Tampa or Oakland for Christ's sake. We are not those teams. We are just playing like it right now. This ship CAN BE righted. It hasn't sailed ---- YET. Sunday night, we''ll see. |

play with desire and pride would be the place to start
this defense looks scared and so does Rob. I swear we are in a prevent form of defense 60% of the time. |

That doesn't tell the whole story. Of those penalties how many led to a touchdown drive. I bet that ratio would be damning. Against Detroit I recall a penalty on a third down (which we had covered prior to the penalty) which I think resulted in a touch down drive. |

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda! Playoffs, Playoffs!! We're entering miracle status. As in it'd be a miracle if we turned this season around. We need Ingram to go off.

Re: I wouldnt write the Saints off just yet
I think Sunday's game is a Bat game. Prime time, at home, after a crushing loss, playing against what many are calling the best team in the NFC. And let's not forget that many have already counted us out. Bring the Wood.

Re: I wouldnt write the Saints off just yet
IN 5 days they play the two toughest games this year. Sunday night and then road game Th. NFL schedule makers suck. No other way to put it.
