Mannequin Defense

Wow, we have absolutely NO defense. We've got a bunch of. Guys standing around from the LB'S on back.

Would it be considered overreacting if I said our defense last year was a fluke, and Rob Ryan is not a good DC?

Re: Mannequin Defense

At least they're starting to hold them to fgs; offense needs to capitalize and quit trading

Rushing 4 for the most part. Injuries are forcing us to play second string talent and rookies.

What do you expect?

Re: Mannequin Defense

Our Red Zone Defense...I like it. Hell, you hold the freakin' GB offense to 3 FGs, you gotta respect that. Between the 20's, I'll agree they are giving up too many yards. But inside the red zone and coming up with stops has got to be encouraging. Plus they are stopping the run, for the most part.

2 plays for over 130 yards is pure crap, though. Rodgers will make plays on any defense, but we gotta keep these 60+ yard plays under control.

Don't know about that but Payton has. Called 3 bad plays so far. Just stupid stuff.

Um, the kind of defense that holds Aaron Rodgers and co to 23 points. Yeah. That kind.

Holy overreaction thread.

We were playing against Aaron Rodgers, did you really think he wasn't going to pick us apart? This wasn't some scrub offense. We played tough D in the red zone, held them to field goals and got some turnovers. That's all you can hope to do against a team like the Packers.

This is the one game so far this season where the soft zone philosophy on defense made a lot of sense. Rodgers is going to eat you alive no matter what you do, you might as well concede the easy stuff and pick your spots to force mistakes.

I was there, nothing wrong with that crowd. Loud as hell all game long. Maybe the loudest I've ever heard the dome since we beat the Panthers in 09 on that touchdown fumble recovery in the end zone.

Haha, I was just making a joke. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with our crowd.

I think so.

Re: Mannequin Defense

I have been disappointed with our defense all season and I am sure everyone has. But in carefully watching the games and plays my issues are not with the scheme at all. It's all in the execution and the basic fundamentals of the sport. Our guys can't tackle, can't shed blocks and can't cover. They take bad angles in pursuit and when they get there it's half hearted attempts at bringing the guy down. Even last night. I couldn't keep counting the number of times we had 4-5 guys play two hand touch with Lacy or a WR and watch him keep chugging.

We can't get pressure with our front 4 and that is an issue Ryan could work with pressure packages but again, with our issues in coverage and tackling it is likely to backfire. I think he is doing the right thing playing coverage zones until he starts to see evidence we can win the one on one matchups that allow for man or blitzing. He's handcuffed by a bunch of underachieving players in my opinion. Aside from Curtis Lofton I don't see anyone excelling at their craft.

I see it as well. A little concerned with the lack of form tackling from Bush/Vacarro in space. On the tackle attempt by Bush on Lacy... why grab a guy up high who outweighs you by 25-30 lbs:confused:? Also, Marcus Ball has not been as effective as I thought he would be at this point of the season. I would like to see more Edibaldi (sp) and Walker in the rotation going forward.

Agreed on Lofton, he has been solid thus far.
