Saints FINALLY get signature win with rout of Packers

Most Saints fans had faith, but it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. 2014 has been a season that really hasn't started for the Saints. Week after week has been one game after the next the team has been unable to finish.


But on Sunday night, who was that defense out there crushing Aaron Rogers, forcing 3 int's for a QB who has had 1 interception all season? Sacks eventually came with pressure on passes that culminated in a complete game and a responsive run defense -- who were these guys who replaced this most criticized 2014 Saints defense?

On offense, could this be the Drew Brees we all remember? No "noodle arm" tonight hitting deep passes as strong as short dink and dunks. Most importantly, no interceptions for Drew. Drew Brees put on a clinic for Roger who has been the media darling this season.

Could this be the turning point?

Nola.com had a nice write up regarding Sunday night's game:

It was at that moment that Graham had to wonder: How much more can a team give?

"If you look back to last week, at Detroit, we did everything possible in practice, telling guys what they needed to do, really challenging guys," Graham said. "To lose like that, was tough, because you think, 'Well, what else can I give? I feel like I prepared the way I should have.'"

Saints coach Sean Payton didn't verbally call out the leaders of this team last week. Instead Payton gave them a message: If you could find it to give a little more, you might hit your goal.

The team was devastated from the loss to the Lions after blowing a 13-point lead. Brees told NBC's Bob Costas that it "was one of the five worst feeling's (he's) had after a football game."

They picked themselves back up and moved on.

But perhaps more than any point this season, the Saints needed a statement win.

"And so we did the same thing this week, and Sean told us, you've just got to keep hitting away at the stone, and something's going to chip," Graham said.

I don't agree this was the turning point. Although this was definitely the best game we have played all season. But it was a home game, we always win at home.

If we win @Carolina on Thursday and take the lead in the NFC South, THAT will be the turning point.

I totally agree with you, but this game gave us all some hope. We played tonight like "The Saints" - the team we all know. But we need to seal the deal and win on the road to a team I don't feel is as good as Green Bay.

Great win for the Saints. This may quiet a few doubters.

Still a long way to go yet but good to see the Saints get something going on both sides of the ball.

Yes we 'always' win @ home, but look at those wins this year.

Although the defense kept Minnesota out of the end zone, the offense was off it's mark and it took overtime to beat Tampa Bay.

Doesn't really matter how we do it. A win is a win.

We haven't lost at home under Sean Payton since the last game of the 2010 season. So that's 19 home wins in a row under SP. There's something to be said about that.

Just fyi, there were not three int's. There were only two (plus one forced fumble).

This was a signature win in every sense of the word -- it was probably one of the highlights of the whole darn Payton/Brees era. I loved the way they didn't let up for one minute, and stayed with their foot on the Packers' neck until the final whistle. Last night was seriously right up there with the greatest games I can remember ever seeing in the Dome. What a blast. A real foot stomper, banging on the walls of the terrace type of night! It felt to me like the playoff win against the Lions in 2011/2012. Or the legendary Patriots game. It really felt that good. Probably in my top 10 all time Payton wins. We needed it badly!
