Payton wants more from fans

HA!! Love this. Payton not only asking more from players but also from fans.

Smart move with our toughest schedule ahead and AT HOME

Saints fans make impact, but Sean Payton demands more - ESPN

Payton was surprisingly dismissive when asked for his reaction to the crowd noise inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after the Saints’ 44-23 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.

“I thought it was good. I’ll be honest with you, I think it’s been a lot better,” Payton said. “And we’ll continue to work on challenging them and getting them fired up. But I thought it was decent.”

????
GB burned 3 TO's and had a few penalties as well.

Maybe he is talking about all of the non-cheering after those non-sacks

I'm equally dismissive about his coaching this year. :)

I rarely post anything.

If you want to sit on your rear-end at the Dome, then stay home. Give your tickets to someone who will scream their head off and affect the game.

As to coaching and playing professional football, we think we know what we are talking about because we watch NFL Live or some other non-sense on tv.

The truth is, 99.9999999999999999999% of us have absolutely no idea what we are talking about.

We still have a chance this year so GET LOUD!

And where are the Payton defenders at when he has something negative to say about the fans? Just what I was saying not too long ago. Oh, heaven forbid anyone question him though. The fans sounded the same as they always do. The dome was louder than most fans even in the lean years.

This is a typical commentary. And who did you see sitting on their butts?

As for the cliche' of "we don't know what we're talking about": There are some dumb fans out there, but there are a lot more of us that no more than we're given any credit for. Do we know everything? No, because we aren't members of the organization. You can be a professional athlete or coach, and you still won't know what's going on with any other team but yours, as far as game plan and what sort of financial plans a team might have. We can't know those things.

But the game, itself, is not hard to understand. There are certain self evident truths that can't be denied. When you see something being done over and over again, and it isn't working, it's fair to say as a fan that it isn't working, and perhaps it's time to change some things. When fans are complaining, it's usually about pretty simple stuff. You don't need to know the ins and outs of what goes on behind the scenes to be able to observe the game of football and identify a problem. But we get treated like a bunch of dumb jocks from the coaches perspective. These guys give THEMSELVES way too much credit.

He did say it was 'good' and maybe in such a way so as not to give fans the impression they should rest on their laurels ... it's motivational psychology on a grander scale, :) ... I am kinda' watching him though,

Who knows. I do kind of get the impression he's trying to motivate fans in some way, but if that is indeed what he's trying to do, it seems silly. Fans are motivated by how the team plays. If we had the privilege to play on the field, then we would be self motivated. As a fan, you support the team no matter what, but how loud you get is 100% controlled by the teams performance. It's just like food... If the product taste's bad, why would you pretend it doesn't? That's why I've always thought coaches should keep their mouths shut about what fans do unless they do something egregious. Like when they start throwing things on the field like idiots.

This week they played well though, and I thought the crowd reflected that. I'm perplexed by Payton's remarks.

Yeah, I agree ... give the fans something to cheer about & they will, et... and coaches generally don't comment on the fans unless it's something out of the ordinary, like you pointed out. I'm just wondering if what I'm seeing is a small chink or two in the Payton-armor ... it's been a tough go for SP the past few seasons ... it wears on ya', you know?. Just sayin'.

I haven't gone to a game yet this year, but one of my friends told me the dome was eerily more quiet than normal. It doesn't surprise me though being how the team has performed. I wonder how the noise level is over at the Georgia dome....

Who knows? From what I understand, that place empties out probably before they even have a chance to set up the sound level meters,.

Paytons playing a mind game to get the fans riled up and loud

Apparently it's worked lol

Budsdrinker 10-29-2014 08:08 AM

Re: Payton wants more from fans

Well, we were loud when we had to be but when the defense was giving up big chunks of yards on dump passes in the first half it's hard to stay loud. Also if coach wants to call someone out, how about calling out all the season ticket holders who sold their tickets to Green Bay fans to make some money. Since 1997 when I first got my season tickets, this was the largest visiting fan base I ever saw in the dome. Easily 10,000 Packer fans were in the dome Sunday night if not more.

Jay,

I want to apologize for some of our members giving you a personal foul for the above.

You're right, we all think we know what we're talking about, but in the end, we're just fans. Probably better educated than most, and definitely more opinionated than most, and absolutely more inebriated than most.

i have to agree. i missed the return years and the superbowl run. last time i was in the dome was last year and i have to say i was disappointed in the noise level much less the energy level at both games.

getting comfy with winning?
expecting to win year in and year out?
have saints fans have become complacent?
have the real fans been priced out od the dome?

Saints fans seem to do only the bare min. heck it was louder with less fans in the seats and a crapper team on the field back in day.

as a 13th player the 50% fans in the seats deserve a D grade for their performance.

The seahawks and chiefs fans get all the praise. those are open air stadiums also. fans should be ashamed.

the dome aint what it use to be

I'm sorry, but I agree with Payton and JayFoster. Seattle clearly has the best home-field advantage in the league. It used to belong to the Saints, but the fans at games have gotten lazy recently. Every game I have been to over the past couple of years has had large numbers of supposed Saints fans that refused to make any noise while the educated fans are doing their best to help out the team.

Yes, you can sit on your ass or stand placidly while the opponent's offense is on the field, but in doing so you, in my personal opinion, surrender all rights to criticize the efforts of the defense.

Watch the Seahawks fans the next game. You will not see a single person not raising all grades of hell when their defense is on the field. Then watch the Saints crowd and you'll see one in every two simply taking up space being useless.

I have regularly seen virtually half the Dome crowd recently sitting on their butts or standing, but not making a sound, when they should be trying to make it hard on the opponent's offense. THAT is a fact.

Good gracious.

None of us have any clue how the game is played at the NFL level. We think we know but we don't have any idea.

This is in a lot of sports actually and not just football.

It's no problem at all.

I consider myself ignorant of the game as well because I've never coached or played at the NFL level.

I like to pretend I know something but the truth is if I were to have a conversation with any NFL Coach about how the game is played, I'd sound like an idiot.

I just happen to know what I don't know. Most people refuse to believe what they don't know.

I do visit the board a lot, I just don't post much.

I just posted on this getting loud issue because it is the ONE thing fans can do to make a difference in the game.

I try to make that difference.

If others want to sit on their rear-end, I think they should just stay home or give their tickets to someone else. I don't understand why you go to a game if you aren't yelling. You can just watch it on tv at the house.

This is 100% on the money.

The last I checked, the Seahawks have THE MOST pre-snap penalties for opposing teams.

Why?

Crowd noise.

Their fans KNOW they can change the game.

I think some season ticket holders are turning into the wine & cheese crowd like the Carolina fans.

Perhaps the most endearing and entertaining quality of Black & Gold is the ability to take any thread, regardless of topic or direction, and somehow turn it into a "Falcons Suck" theme,.
