Vaccaro praises Harper, but not Jenkins
Vaccaro-Jenkins tension: Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro praised the way that former Saints veteran Roman Harper was “selfless” and helpful to him last season even though Vaccaro’s first-round draft status presumably threatened Harper’s job security.
On the flip side, Vaccaro told The Advocate’s Ramon Antonio Vargas that it wasn’t the same case with former Saints veteran Malcolm Jenkins, whom Vaccaro felt was less welcoming. Harper is now with the rival Carolina Panthers, who will host his former team on Thursday night. Look for more on the reunion later. ESPN: The Worldwide Leader In Sports |
Re: Vaccaro praises Harper, but not Jenkins
Harper always seemed like the team first, selfless kind of guy
I remember how Harper reacted when Vaccaro was drafted, pretty much said he's here to take my spot but together we will make the defense better |

Re: Vaccaro praises Harper, but not Jenkins
I haven't even been signed up with this forum for a whole year, but even in last year's season, I thought Harper got a lot of unwarranted hate around here. Probably because he's from Bama and a lot of people here are die hard LSU fans. Harper was a good player for the Saints.
Jenkins, on the other hand... He deserved every bit of his criticism. |
Re: Vaccaro praises Harper, but not Jenkins
Harper was a scapegoat. Some still believe he was the reason we lost the San Fran playoff game.

I blame Gregg Williams for that loss. |

He was the main reason we won the 2013 opener when he had two turnovers, a lot of people wouldn't give him praise. |

Plus even with those 5 turnovers, the defense still kept us in the game
Brees pick, returned to the 5 yard line Sproles fumble inside our own 10 yard line PT knocked out when we were about to score and we come away empty. |
Re: Vaccaro praises Harper, but not Jenkins
I've always suspected Jenkins as being kind of a me-first player, the kind of guy who will get his contract and then slack off. Or who has a really good year every once in a while just to prove himself, then goes back to being average. Not super-surprised to hear he wasn't out to help somebody who was competing with him for a job. I don't think he's a bad guy by any means though.
I always said if you could've put Harper's brain in Jenkins' body you would have a great player. |

Re: Vaccaro praises Harper, but not Jenkins
I didn't blame harper for the 49ers lost but he did cost us the 2010 Seattle game. Yep, I still haven't let it go. However, I blame Greg williams for that as well. The best thing you can do is know your players. Any scenario where you have harper playing more than 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage is an instant L. However, you put him 10 yards from the line of scrimmage and he's a much different player. That's why he looked a lot better with vacarro because he didn't have to handle a majority of the pass coverage duties.
