Pigmy or Child
 

Are we the tallest pigmy in the land of giants or are we a rapidly maturing child?

I didn't get the sense that we could answer that question based on last night's performance. Considering that the opponent was the quadriplegic knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it would be tough to project out against an opponent who might have a healthy offensive line, a quarterback who has a clue, and a secondary who is better organized.

We have a really tough next 4 games against real NFL teams. I hope the next 10 days we can heal and figure out what we are.

3 of our 4 losses were by a total of 6 points.

Next three at home starting with the division lead is best case scenario. They have climbed in front of the division after a aweful start, let's hope we only have better things to come.

But we lost to Atlanta, Cleveland and Detroit. I could have stopped at mentioning the Clowns, but Cleveland lost to Jax (come ON) and Detroit has been the beneficiary of opponents like the Saints inflicting self immolation (and they even lost badly to the Panties!?)

Saying that we barely lost to horrible teams does not support the thesis that we are on the verge of greatness.

It's like the team was literally sleep-walking through the first 6 games.

No teams are great this year.
Dallas? Hardly.
Philly? Zona? Seattle? Nope.

3 road games lost by a total of 6 = sleeping giants.

Next 5 weeks should tell us a lot (no **** sherlock) but it should be fun either way.

The one difference between the game against the panties and the previous 6 was that the team expected to win and played to close instead of hoped to win and played not to lose.

Good teams have that mentality no matter who the opponent. We've seen it only once in the Saints this season. One data point does not make a trend. 4 more does.

I'm not lowering my standards.

I understand your concerns, but there are signs of encouragement.

A lot of the Saints sloppy play wasn't in evidence.

The offense moved the ball well; even against a bad team, going 85 yds in 1:56 with ZERO timeouts and finishing with a touchdown before halftime is impressive.

Injuries are going to be the stumbling block now; hopefully 10 days rest is enough for Strief to be recover before the whiners game!

I generally agree with you, but I do think that "killer instinct" of expecting to win was evident in the GB game as well.

We did play "not to lose" in the ATL, CLE, DET, MIN, & TB games for sure...it was pretty obvious.

The argument can be made that the trend of "expecting to win" & "stepping on the opponent's throat" has been set sequentially between the data points of the GB & CAR games.

The probability of continuing this trend is even higher considering our next 3 games are in the Dome (where we definitely play better) to include factoring in this week's "mini-BYE" (to help us get healthier).

However, I got a "C" in Cal II, so I could be a factor of "zero" in this argument.

A win is a win no matter how far you have to bend over nor how far you have to reach to pull it out. just do not smell it and accept it for what it is
