I disagree. It's all about the mindset. :).
You mistake me, sir. I didn't say psychology wasn't involved.

I just said that this guy does not know exactly what the psychology/motivation is -- maybe someone's mother died. That unfortunate circumstance could belie his motivation on a particular day ( positively or negatively ). We don't know the psychology that influences each individual that make up an entire team -- and to assert that you do is BS.

As I said, if we lost this week, then the team will likely be more motivated next week. That's all I am willing to concede.

Yeah, I know. It's not something worth having that big a debate over because who really knows what motivates people or what's going on in their minds.

Professional football players are warriors, soldiers, gladiators, et ... so IMO, if you've ever consistently been in situations similar to playing a high-level contact sport/military, et ... you can make a pretty close determination of what it takes to play in the NFL and what motivates these guys on any given Sunday. You're right, the wild card is how can you factor in each and every unique personal experience (ie parent passing), and you can't. But you can tell when a particular athlete is having an "off day/season" and usually connect it to some type of personal issue/injury ... like fricken' Justin Verlander (Detroit Tigers) being the dominant pitcher in the Major Leagues until he started dating Kate "kryptonite" Upton, who sapped all his super powers, (and he had surgery, ;))

Nothing's 100% though, you're right, :).
