Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
Drew Brees still believes in the New Orleans Saints.
Of course, playing in the worst division in football helps. The Saints are on pace to host a playoff game at 4-5 even though they've looked like a shadow of the team they're capable of being. But Brees has apparently been trying to repair the void of consistency with some old fashioned positivity. "I am annoyingly optimistic and confident, I've been told many times by teammates," Brees said, via ESPN.com. "And so, you know what? I'm gonna come right back out the next series, and if that throw's there, you can be darn sure it's getting thrown." Brees is interesting because for the first time, he's being viewed as a major part of the problem. He has 10 picks, which is two behind last year's season total of 12. He is committing turnovers down the stretch of tight games. There are whispers about arm strength and whether or not it's dropping off (though that theory has been laughed off). Still, there is no other team with perpetually high expectations each week that continues to disappoint. Saints coach Sean Payton must be thankful for this obnoxious confidence. "There's nobody who's harder on themselves than me when some of those things happen where, 'Man, I know better, I can't let that happen, it's my job,'" Brees said. "I have that responsibility. And I also feel like I have the ability to bounce back from that. That is also my mentality." Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic' - NFL.com |
Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
I am not an optimistic person at all. But I want my QB to be one. Optimistic people get sh*t done while us pessimists ***** and moan and look for reasons why it can't.

I haven't been around lately because it has just been depressing around here. Especially on the game day chat. I fully understand disappointment. And, we are here to discuss pros and cons of this team and constructive criticism is appropriate. But, when people predict that we will lose a game or predict that our season is over in week 8 or 10, when we still have a shot at the division -- that is just depressing hyperbole. It isn't inspiring or motivating. There are some really intelligent posters here who know a great deal about this team in particular and football in general. I really appreciate these folks. |
Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
About Brees -- he hasn't played up to his own expectations or anyone else's this season. At the same time, his receivers are sucking -- and the O-Line has been poor at protecting him at times. Some of the INTs weren't his fault, at all. His play isn't entirely his fault. But, you all know this already.
Given all this Brees is still rated as one of the best QBs in the game THIS YEAR. So, I really don't understand the calling for Brees' head. |

Yeah, I hear ya' Drew, ... get the "annoyingly optimistic" rhetoric thrown my way now & again as well ... beats crying in your soup or over spilt milk, I suppose.
Keep up the good work #9. It's not how you handle your success, but how you handle your misfortune that matters. JMO. |
Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
We should be running away with this Division. We can't choose our Division so no choice but to be in the worst division in football. However, contributing to the worst Division in football is downright embarrassing. You guys hear all the time I am sure just like I do. No one knows we have lost 4 by 9 points in the final 2 mts. They surely remember the Dallas blowout however. They also remember the whipping we put n GB which helps the sting some. But my point is we should be running away with this thing. The Pats have made a dynasty by being good to great in an almost always awful division. That's why they have so many playoff appearances.
We are goofing around and about to blow an easy road to the playoffs. As far as Drew being told he is annoyingly confident. I am not quite sure what to make of that. Whoever would say that (and it seems more than once) needs to read my post or get to another team. |
Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
Stay positive Drew.
Hopefully it'll rub off. |
Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
annoyingly optimistic and confident
hmmm it worries me any one in a locker room would say that all. |
Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
I'm a pessimistic optimist now. I was an optimist but life beat me down.lol

Maybe, just maybe ... type them posts up in notepad/wordpad, run a spelling/grammar check, right-click, copy, and paste 'em into the board, eh? It would go a long way towards letting the rest of us see your true football genius, :) ... just sayin', you can do what you want. |
Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
He was saying something in the chat last week and we were all wondering what he was talking about. I didn't know he was one of our trolls.

Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
Annoyingly optimistic. Didn't he respond to this in his PC yesterday? My opinion I also believe something isn't right in the locker room. I am beginning to wonder if some part of this team has tired of Drew Brees and how his early INT's cost us games.

Hell I believe!

Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
I am not going to slam him for being optimistic.
That is his job, well, part of it as team leader. No sulking on one game. Fix it and prep everyone for next. I prefer this than , ummmm, some qb's out there who blame everyone on God's Green Earth. You KNOW who they are. CN. RGIII. But I am not saying no names. With Brees....one thing...and his wife. With their four little ones under 6yrs. old. :help: I think he and the Mrs. need to get one of those English nannies like Prince George has. His is from Spain but she is a graduate of that English big nanny school. Just say'in. |

Re: Brees: Teammates say I'm 'annoyingly optimistic'
It is all clear to me now and I think you guys are on to something, :) ... I did not realize he had four that young. Of course he's burning the wick at both ends trying to be the best daddy & an elite NFL QB. Of course he and his wife could use a professional nanny ... three boys under six & a newborn baby daughter? Ain't nobody getting any sleep or "me" time in that household. It is time to "nanny-up", Drew. Ain't no shame in that!
