NFL looking at Saints' roster move
 

The New Orleans Saints have drawn the NFL's attention again.

The NFL is looking into whether the Saints illegally stashed linebacker Todd Davis in their training facility after they released him at a time the Denver Broncos were claiming him on waivers, sources said.

A Saints official said Sunday morning he was unaware of any impropriety.

The Saints waived Davis last week, planning to sign him back to their practice squad, so they kept him in team meetings at their training facility on Thursday. The Broncos claimed Davis the same day and wanted to bring him to Denver on Friday for practice but could not get a hold of him because he was in meetings in New Orleans, a source said.

Davis met the Broncos in St. Louis on Saturday, but not before the NFL began looking into the Saints' actions.

The NFL wants to determine what the facts are, but it's possible New Orleans will be facing a stiff fine.

The New Orleans Saints are reportedly under investigation for keeping a player they’d cut on team facilities in the hopes of assigning him to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

The Denver Broncos threw a wrench in those plans by claiming linebacker Todd Davis. Adam Schefter reports that when the Broncos called the linebacker to share the news, Davis didn’t answer and it wasn’t because of a lack of cell reception. He was reportedly in a team meeting with the Saints after he’d been cut.

Our front office needs to be more careful. I'm sure the Broncos only did this knowing we're not really cutting these players. I don't see a direct beef between the Saints and Broncos.

Regardless, our front office is on notice that little spies are out there watching. Frankly I'm growing tired of the reputation brewing around them while their draft picks and big contract players are some of the worst in the league.

We need to just follow the damn rules. We will lose a draft pick over a player that has what 3 tackles this year if that?

Sure there are rules against having a cut player in team meetings that has not cleared waivers and has been claimed by another team.

Why Vitt? what the front office or SP or Rob get away with it and a lower takes the fall?

In my book it was ROB responsibility as DC to make sure Davis was out of the building if he was still there.

Why do people keep let Rob Ryan get off scott free? why?

I don't see it as a big deal. There are no rules for who sits in on team meetings.

I sat in on team meetings when Mora was head coach. I wasn't on the roster.

Our front office needs to be punished for having so many bad LB's that we actually try to hide a mediocre UDFA practice squad LB from other teams.

Rob coached DBs almost his entire life and excelled at LB coach with the pats. even then he was not there long enough to screw that group up. Then moved to DC 4 teams in what some 11 years?

were are the saints biggest weaknesses? DB and LB
