Our two options
If you had told me these were the two options at the beginning of the season I'd have scoffed at you and called you an idiot as the Saints were primed for a superbowl year. With the safety position depleted after the loss of Rafael Bush I have lost every speckle of hope I had going into the Bengals game. I see no strength, leadership, or sync in this team. Considering the holes in this team I would prefer a higher pick and not make the playoffs.

Re: Our two options
Problem is we probably gonna finish behind Atlanta without any option because I don't see this team winning more than 2 or three more games tops right now.

Re: Our two options
I'm thinking the same thing Carolina & Tampa and maybe Atlanta
in the Dome maybe! 12 11/24 vs. Bal 7:30 PM CT 13 11/30 @ Pit 12:00 PM CT 14 12/7 vs. Car 12:00 PM CT 15 12/15 @ Chi 7:30 PM CT 16 12/21 vs. Atl 12:00 PM CT 17 12/28 @ TB 12:00 PM CT |

I voted for the playoffs, come on no one wants to see the team give up and strive for a lower draft pick... |
Re: Our two options
Hmm!!!! A higher draft pick or a extra week to be miserable from a lost if we made the playoffs.... Very tempting but I have hope if they were to get into playoffs they could win it all
|
Re: Our two options
Well, there's no 'Andrew Luck' coming out in this year's draft (as far as I know), so you might as well "play to win", eh?.
|
Re: Our two options
We are talking the NFL, professionals always play to win no matter what. Now as a fan, I hope the Saints can win the division and get into the playoffs. The biggest issue going into next year isn't the need for a high draft pick, it is the need to figure out a way to get out of the salary cap mess they are in.
|
Re: Our two options
Funny, this sounds exactly like the Bengals board before the Saints game.
Y'all are welcome back on board after we defeat the Ravens. |
Re: Our two options
win the division for the love of god. it is still in reach
I have not heard the fat lady sing yet did you hear the fat lady? anyone here hear a fat lady? the race is still on |
Re: Our two options
It is a no-brainer and don't even hesitate, always always always pick the division win and the playoff game, no matter what.
Because it's another banner for hanging in the rafters of the Dome, to put next to the other ones. Then you can point to it and tease visiting Falcons and Panthers fans before the game. In 4 years, nobody will remember the crappy record it took to get it, but they will always see the banner and know we have another division title up there, that we were better than the Falcons. We need as much fabric hanging in the rafters of the Dome as we can get. That's called history. |
Re: Our two options
Go for the playoffs. We'll get a middling draft pick anyway because the Jags, Raiders, Bucs and Jets will all likely pick ahead of us.
|
Re: Our two options
Screw the draft. I want the Saints to win.
|
Re: Our two options
I'd like the Saints to win, too, but the writing has been on the wall since September 7.
Lose. Lose hard. Showing up should do it. |
Re: Our two options
I also think option 3 would be a good move, too, although I'm pretty sure Payton and Loomis wouldn't go for it because (a) it would make sense and (b) it would mean admitting they had draft problems in the past. Option #3 is, trade DOWN in the draft, give away something to get MORE picks, regardless of where ever position we end up.
This team has so many needs next year, it really could use as many picks as it can possibly scrounge up right now. This means maybe even giving away their best pick or someone good, in order to get a bunch of smaller, less flashy, mid level picks to plug some needed holes. But instead Payton and Loomis will probably do the usual "OCD" reach for some new shiny object, and give away the farm, giving up a whole lot for trading up a couple spots, to grab a darling wide receiver or precious running back. It's basically either give up something to get more draft picks to rebuild, or else hope that surrounding Drew with a whole team full of UDFA's from small nowhere schools can somehow end up being good enough to win a few games. |
Re: Our two options
Right now I want to win! If we continue a downward spiral then I'm thinking draft picks just until we can bounce back.
Edit: This team doesn't draft as well later in the round. We need an early draft choice to get top talent because we don't seem to evaluate talent very well. |
Re: Our two options
Good LAWD...draft pick? A higher draft pick? What in the wild, wild world of sports is a goin' on here?
It's the middle of November and we are 4-6. The NFC South leader is (gasp!) 4-6. You would have thought we were at least 2-3 games out of 1st place with 4 games to go... And what in the world will higher drafts picks do for us next year with a team riddled with dysfunction this year? But nothing cures dysfunction like winning a division, which is still there for the taking. With 6 games left. |

Re: Our two options
Whatever, I can never hope the Saints do badly. In the history of time, I wanna see Saints Divisional champions. My goodness we don't seem to deserve it but there is an old truth - you can only beat what is in front of you. If, for whatever reason, we win the Division, I will take it big time. Better that, always. And better that especially than coming 2nd or 3rd in a bad year.
|
Re: Our two options
We are just flying under the radar, right now. If we go down, we do it trying to win.
|
Re: Our two options
The draft is a crapshoot anyway. We should shoot for as many picks as we can get.
(And always play for the best record we can get.) |
Re: Our two options
I vote for 5-11 and win the division and win the Superbowl.

Re: Our two options
I'd imagine one of the top 5 moments in Seahawk history is their 7-9 Seahawks knocking off the heavily favored Saints.
I'm hoping we do the same, hopefully to the 49ers, Seahawks or Cowboys. |
Re: Our two options
One thing is for sure, if we won the division at .500 or worse and then won a playoff game... The NFL would definitely change the playoff rules in the offseason because it was us.
|
Re: Our two options
Hell yes shoot for the playoffs. That means the rest of our division are watching at home. Even though it would probably be a short playoff run, it's a playoff run with no pressure, because nobody would be picking us.
|
Re: Our two options
Playoffs every time, no question!
You can pick up what is seen to be a great draft player only for them to become a bust. It happens so often in this league. GEAUX SAINTS!!! |
Re: Our two options
However, we should pick up any good surgeons who show up on the draft boards...
|
Re: Our two options
The Saints have had plenty of high draft picks. They don't guarantee success and they're nothing to be proud of.
The Saints haven't had many division wins in their history. A banner beats no banner no matter what the record is. |
Re: Our two options
Playoffs! I agree that this team is majorly flawed but if we got in at 6-10 we'd be dangerous. Drew Brees would love to be the one to win a title with that record.

I hate these questions. I'd hate to be someone that watches his favorite team and cheer for them to lose. I can't grasp that.
