Mixed reviews on Kenny Vaccaro's comments; Payton likes his passion

1 Attachment(s)
METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro was outspoken about his growing frustrations after Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Among other topics, Vaccaro said the Saints' defensive chemistry hasn't been the same this season after losing so many veterans in the offseason and that he's been "embarrassed" by how undisciplined the Saints look on defense.

Saints linebacker and captain Curtis Lofton said he doesn't think such frustrations should be handled through the media.

"He's not the only player that feels that way, and there's been numerous guys that have expressed the same feelings. But there's a different type of way of doing it," Lofton said. "That's how it's been handled in the past, and that's how it needs to be handled in the future, too."

At least someone is showing passion.

Where is Akeem Hicks this year?

After all the fan comments after the game about how none of the players seam to "care" or how they have just "given up", it's nice to see players take a stand and try to negate that belief.

Talk is still cheap, anyone can put in a bad performance and talk about how p***ed off they are because they played terrible

Only way I'll believe they truly care is if they show it on the field.

bingo.

the biggest issue raised it's ugly head in the middle of last year when Greer went down. we did nothing to address the issue in the off season. so far i have not seen it.

that is the issue with our secondary. no true CB to start opposite Lewis.

It's pretty easy to see that now but at the time it didn't look like there was a major need to address CB in the offseason. Patrick Robinson was coming back from injury and he looked great the season before. On top of that, Corey White was the third CB and, who statistically played as well as Greer before he went down.

It's great to see ANY passion about the game and profession from ANY player on this team because Sunday they looked about as passionate and stimulated as eunuch in a whore house.

Talk may be cheap but it's AMAZING that he is the ONLY player on the team who is neanderthal enough to be totally ticked off and embarrassed by his, and his teams', performance.

This team lacks testosterone!

I see nothing wrong with what he said.
He has not hung anyone out to dry and has just said that he thinks loosing vets has been a reason for some of the poor play.

Well let's see...Vaccaro's view vs Lofton's view

2012 when there were obvious problems with Spags...they "handled it in house" which Lofton WAS HERE FOR, nobody said anything public about it, not a peep until the season was already over, and how did that turn out for them? Uh, worst defense in history. And every individual player on that defense gets that tag, whether they individually earned it or not. Including Mr. "handle it in house" Lofton.

Then the so-called "Bountygate," let's see....again they handled it "in house" and nobody (except Vilma) said anything to the media....we got hit with suspensions all around for everybody, fines, only Goodell's distorted and incomplete version of the story got told, and some dudes never played a meaningful down of football again after Goodell got through with them...it cost the team draft picks and momentum and lord knows what else....

So while I appreciate guys wanting to create a wall and have "locker room" solidarity, I don't think it really pays off in the modern era, in every situation.

And having lived through this *$%#$ before, as a paying ticket holder I would rather have people talk openly, and tell it like it is, and do something to rip off the band-aid or BREAK THE SPELL of suckage, rather than have no one tell us what's really going on, until the train has already wrecked for this year and possibly next.

Some things should be kept quiet but as i said before if you do not throw a team mate under the bus or are complaining about coaches decisions then i have no issue with talking to the press

Looks like the Saints would have been in better shape if they had kept Bailey. Oh well, guess we will see what the team decides to do now. How can they play with so few healthy secondary players? We are going to see alot of shots down the field if the Saints can't correct their mistakes out there. I'm still optimistic, but it looks like best case scenario will be a number 6 seed in the playoffs. Not going to hold my breath for that one. Also, if Drew Brees doesn't get the protection he needs up front and their run game doesn't improve its going to be ugly over the next 6 games.

Great points!! To add to that I feel like each player should know they are not guaranteed a position on the team, yet they play like they are certain they will be staying for the following week. What if all of the sudden a star player like Brees was benched for one game? Do you think that would get the point across? These guys need to wake up if they want to continue as a member of this team.

The season isn't on one or even a few guys. It's on everybody top to bottom.

just like that red headed kid that set awesome qb ratings on our ass last week, they didn't stay in house with all his suckage the week before, he called himself out and the whole team called there self out and played like the hottest team in the league where we had no answer.

Maybe these guys need a little institutional embarrassment to be aired out. Football is a naturally ego driven sport, if looking bad on field isn't enough to get some drive out of the players, maybe having to also see it in social media can light a fire for them.
