MLB McKinney, Miss State w/1st Round Pick -- he is a proven commodity for the last 2 years in the SEC West. We pick up MLB DePriest, Bama or MLB A.J. Johnson, Tenn w/4th-to-6th Round Pick (depending on their respective combine results & interviews).
You want to get serious about this linebacker thing, you get some proven run stoppers AND coverage linebackers from the best conference against the best competition on the biggest stages. You want to get serious on building a strong Front 7, you get some proven talent at MLB. Sending out a flyer like that 4th round pick on Fortt to shore up your ILB problems has proven to be both stupid and stupider. We're right in the middle of SEC country who are cranking out proven NFL defensive talent year after year after year, yet we've drafted only 8 SEC players of the 53 players drafted during Payton's tenure since 2006. Of those 8, only Marvin Mitchell (7th Round, 2007) is no longer playing after 7 seasons with 3 teams. Also, if we pick up a CB, S, or WR with any picks that we have to move up to get or that isn't an obvious BPA I'm pretty sure I'll throw my T.V. out the window. |

We maybe the highest picking Division Champ in NFL History Now if the Saints would for once approach the draft with the idea of getting picks instead of giving them away i could see this pick. I like him but in no way is he the talent of a C. J. Mosley. Trade back and pick McKinney maneuver around the second and get additional picks and walk away with my two favs at man CB for that round CB Charles Gaines CB Kevin Johnson CB Kevin White is my third if we were to go CB later in the draft. He is more a slot guy IMO Now I would love it. two rounds and two of the biggest needs filled right out of the gate and extra picks still in our pocket. but alas this is the saints we are talking about here. Drafting to help solve cap issue? nah that concept does not computer. |

Re: 2015 draft??
The only reason that was fresh on my mind is because PFT had an article the other day about how the winner of the NFC South would be losers come draft day because they'd be picking lower than lots of teams with better records.

First is obvious, better draft pick. Second, no winner of the NFCS repeats as the champ the following year. This is not a year we want the title. |

I would target in the 20s Benardrick McKinney ILB second option Danny Shelton NT maybe? Also do you draft a RT that can move to OG in the first? I say yes. both OG are now up there in age and there contracts are making them more appealing to be cap causalities. who knows win the starting RT position right out the gate maybe. draft another one to groom and if the football goods are on your side when it is time to switch players all the pieces fall into place with out missing a beat. La'el Collins - he is a homer everyone knows him. RT all the way. better run blocker than pass blocker. has issues with speed and is ok in recovering when beat Ty Sambrailo - Rot all the way also. I like this kid. probably the better pass blocker of the two. I like his recovery when beat. great at pushing the defender wide. better foot work in my opinion. More than anything else he plays nasty. he has a mean streak to him that Collins does not have. their run blocking about the same. hands down the pancake king of the two. ranking difference? colorado st vs lsu. level of competition. In the big picture if the top two are gone i go ROT as a pick towards the future. right now Ty Sambrailo get the nod IMO. Benardrick McKinney ILB/OLB Danny Shelton NT ? Ty Sambrailo ROT/OG Nate Orchard DE/OLB is my a wild card. i want to see how does when the beauty contests starts. senior bowl and combine stuff. as an OLB he has all the skills you look for. but raw raw raw. converted WR. Utah did not know what to do with kid. he has played all over the place because of his skill sets. So there is a reach factor here and some hype but if i had to pick one to keep an eye on it is this kid. opposite of JR on passing downs could be something to see. I like him more than i do Alvin Dupree of Kentucky. just too much hype and ceiling talk for my liking with little to back it all up with plus he is more of a true DE IMO. Nate has the production to justify the hype if that is ever really possible |

Re: 2015 draft??
Let me say that I'm more a SEC Homer more than a LSU homer even as a Louisiana native, resident...
I even pull for the Tide when they appear the best option; though I don't suck the tailpipe for the Crimson and holler "Roll Tide" for entertainment... That said, La'el Collins is a beast and his issues are coachable; great character, tremendous size and strength; he would add an immediate level of toughness to the Saints Offensive Line... |

There are so many unpolished diamonds out there at LB, we just need to do a better job of scouting these guys. |
