Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Finally watched the Bengals game on nfl rewind
Can Lorig actually gain a yard? Those rollout passes out of the backfield were dreadful We so need Pierre back |
Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Lorig has been a huge disappointment. Wonder if they'll waive him after this season.

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
i am a bit surprised. but add him to the goose egg pile so far in 2014. traditional FB and TE seem to have little value to the saints

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
No.

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
IMO Austin Johnson looked much better this year. Too bad he had to get injured.

I agree Matthew. AJ looked like he had some ability to push the pile on the interior and had decent hands and elusiveness in the flat. Lorig has looked surprisingly plain since he's been in and nothing like the Jed Collins, Heath Evans type players we've had at this position.

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
No, and the roll out on the scoring play was horid.

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Payton said in the press conference, that the FB play at the goal line with Lorig, was part of a "sequence" of plays they had drawn up in that situation (because they went no huddle). I saw it coming a mile away, on 4th down.
Now, ask yourself this: if I can see it, and I'm in the stands of the terrace with glassy eyes and a flask and 3 Budweisers in me, on a Sunday morning, don't you think an NFL caliber defensive scout or coordinator or player, could see it coming for miles, too? It was a Totally Predictable Sean Payton (TM) playcall. No wonder it didn't work. Of course, five years ago with Heath Evans or Jed Collins, and a young 25 year old stud Jahri Evans on that side, that play was golden. It was money in the bank to go to the fullback on the goal line. But that was five years ago !!! This is exactly what people mean when they say it's getting stale. |
Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Anytime the FB is the primary option, it's probably not going to turn out well. I really don't see what they saw in the guy.

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
The failures in Free Agency are rapidly outweighing the successes...

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Big Foot Lorig is on-fire this year:
2 carries / 3 yards - 1 fumble / 1 fumble lost 6 catches / 24 yards - 1 first down 8 touches for 27 yards with 1 first down and 1 lost fumble. Brilliant. Also got pushed back in the pocket @ CAR that helped force yet another fumble, this one by Brees. If Lorig is the answer, I am terrified of what the question was. |

Can some Loomis style cap wizard, please explain? Because five minutes of looking at the details on Rotoworld had me feeling nauseous and worried about puking on my keyboard. I sure can't figure this one out. Jed Collins = proven commodity in a Saints uniform. He definitely had some "beast mode" style touchdowns and cool plays, for us Lorig = ?????? Did Jedediah do something to piss Payton off and make him cut him, did he fumble or wear the wrong cleats or something? I don't remember hearing anything. |

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Collins was a below average run blocker while Lorig was one of the better run blocking FBs in the league while with the Bucs.
Letting Collins walk and signing Lorig was a further sign of the "commitment to the run" which the team was preaching all off-season long and for what many of the fans were screaming for. It may not have worked out like they hoped it would, but I do see the basis for the decision they made. |

Interesting facts: Johnson touched the ball 10 times, got 7 first downs, had 1 TD, and had ZERO fumbles. Lorig has touched the ball 8 times for 1 first down & 1 lost a fumble & is mostly responsible for another lost fumble with his pass protection against Carolina. With our fullback roster moves, it's almost a "Loomis, choke thyself" moment. Just wish we had more of Austin and way less of Lorig at this point in the season... |
Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
You guys are blaming the FB now? Hilarious.

So why not nit-pick on a fullback? Folks are always complaining they don't get enough press. Here we are. Make a first down on short yardage. Block worth a crap on running plays and in pass protection. Don't fumble the dang ball. Earn your pay, Lorig. Spicing it up a bit...everybody flames the o-line, the defense, et al. Just providing some equal opportunity. |
Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
IIRC he threw a key block on a blitz pick up in the Green Bay game that resulted in a 50 yard TD to Cooks (?). It was a thing of beauty.
I think the piling on is ridiculous. He's a frigging FB that's played 4 games. FOUR!!! Sounds like you girls are just looking for something to whine about. |

He is certainly not the reason we dropped that turd on Sunday against Cincinnati, but if us girls want to whine about his play, I think he's fair game the same as with SJB, Colston, the O-Line, our secondary, our coaches, ad nauseam... |
Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Not to mention he missed all of training camp, preseason and almost half of the regular season... Let's give the guy a little time.

Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Of course, he was hit by a PAIR of defenders! Do ya think they might have had an inkling or a clue that the ball was likely coming to him? My complaint was mostly about the predictable play calling, only partially about the player. It was obvious watching in real time that the play was anticipated, he got met right there and no amount of effort was going to be able to get him into the end zone, short of a total miracle.
But taken as a whole, that play, that goal line sequence -- and Lorig -- is part of a growing laundry list of Things That Used To Work For The Saints, that don't work anymore....that is the elephant in the room, that I think some people don't seem to want to acknowledge....the things that USED to work for the Saints, that used to be money, aren't working reliably anymore. I could rattle off a list of things that used to be our bread and butter plays, that don't work reliably anymore: - FB on the goal line - Colston to move the chains (drops/fumbles) - empty backfield on short yardage - Drew threading the needle near the goal line - the screens that get anticipated and blown up, so Drew has to throw it in the dirt... Seriously, I could go on and on and list more. Heck, even running Ingram to Jahri's side, on the play before the FB pass -- two or three years ago that play would have probably worked. Or to the other side with Nicks in his prime, four or five years ago. Things with this offense and playcalling, are in the process of getting stale, and HIGHLY predictable to defenses. Can people not see it? |
Re: Can Lorig gain a yard or break a tackle?
Lorig is not the problem as much as the call on a play that doesn't really sell anything else as an option on a slow developing play.
