Sean Payton talks about the loss to the Baltimore Ravens

1 Attachment(s)
“Obviously, it's a disappointing loss and credit Baltimore, John (Harbaugh), his staff and their team. They made the plays tonight in the end that were necessary. It’s a tough loss and we are going to have a short week and have to get ready to play Pittsburgh.”

On the message after another tough loss:

“It's for this locker room. Obviously, it is a different type of loss, but these guys will have a quick week of preparation. There are a handful of things that hurt us tonight. I thought on third down we weren’t as efficient early on as we needed to be. We had trouble stopping the run. When we have a chance to watch the tape we will have a better idea.”

On being surprised struggling at the point of attack:

“When you play a team like that you have to keep pounding it, we knew it was a physical front. To credit our guys, in the second half all of the sudden we started finding some creases on some of the zone schemes. We knew we didn’t want to make it a one-dimensional game.”

On if changes made last week helped any:

“We’ll see.”

On making more changes:

“We’re not going to sit up here after a game and talk about what changes are being made, we are not going to do that. You guys will be the last to know.”

On decision to go for it on fourth down on the opening possession:

“I thought it was an important time in the game for us maybe to send a message and one of the reasons why not only did we go for it, but we ran it. Listen, that’s two times now, two weeks in a row we are not able to get I, but then we are not able to defend it from that position on the field so it was a gut feeling and I think our approach going in, and our players knew it, that we were going to be aggressive in this game and we could obviously look back and kicked it but it’s something I decided.”

Same washed out post game speech we have heard far too many times this season.

Talent simply isn't there or has regressed or declined, some of it overpaid and not cap friendly. This is a team loss, from the top down coaches and all. They haven't learned well enough from the New England model, or maybe SP has lost his way a bit. SP is still the man and can/will correct this.... just not this year.

Loomis has not done his job. Loomis is great at structuring contracts and pushing money into future years but since hitting it big in one draft he has not done much. Learn from the Patriots, build in the draft and get as many picks as you can...

Keep plugging away at it Coach, your still in it and the team looked better than last week. The Ravens are way better balanced team and had two weeks to prepare for us, as does Pittsburgh, and you had a lot of crap to try to fix after the Bengals with fill in players.
I feel better moving on after this loss than the last.

Another week, another pick 6 and another couple dozen blown assignments and missed tackles

I wonder how Sean's confidence is doing now? Maybe he needed to be brought down a couple of notches. Looking at the world from a different point of view can be a good thing. Sometimes our ego gets between us and our goals. It can happen when you are extremely successful.

Yes! Coach Payton is being outcoached this year. Did he say that anywhere? However I would NOT let him go. I'm thinking he is still learning how to coach effectively past the 5 year window & after winning a super bowl some players & coaches loose the fire. He needs to get that fire back.

It's gonna be a rough one going into Pitt with them coming off a bye week and it's their first home game since Nov 2nd. It's gonna be electric.

And I'll say this again: Pitt has more to play for than we do. The AFC North is loaded and every game absolutely matters while our NFC South is a dumpster fire. They will be rested and fired up and motivated.

Us? Pffft. If we get in the right uniform and right shoes before the game, it will be a small moral victory. I've been optimistic from the get-go, but this particular game I thought was gonna be our toughest of the year even before the season started. Now seeing us week in, week out this year...this is gonna be ugly.

Please prove me wrong and find some motivation to win this freakin' game, Saints!

One thing I know; the future is not Drew Brees to Jimmy Graham. We are going to have to be more dynamic than that.

Levion Bell might set the rushing yardage record on us. This one is going to be ugly.

Not one "expert" on NFL.com gives the Saints a chance against Pittsburgh! They all go for the Steelers, some are saying we will have 40 plus points put on us, guess you can see why they would say that, but wouldn't it be great to prove them all wrong.

I think, unfortunately, we will probably hear again "Credit Pittsburgh" in Sean's post game speech. As has already been said, it is getting very tiresome to hear the same stuff said every week.

C'mon Sean, fire your team up and get them playing the way they should be! . . . . . PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GEAUX SAINTS!!!

Won't be any long pass plays, bank on that. Establish the run and get one first down at a time. Let's hope PITT has an off day offensively. Keep the game plan pretty simple on BOTH sides of the ball. With a little luck, who knows. If anything, it will be a good practice to go to Chicago.

SP is getting good at talking about how we lost the game. I believe everything he says..... yes sir!

Purposely steering to a 7-9 record this year imo, setting up the NO/SEA rematch in the Dome. A matchup able to generate tons of jibber jabber from the sports media to stoke up the NFL fandom for that game, plus spotlight Benson's contribution.
There is no other logical reason for the coaching style/decisions this year. Plus what difference does it make that we enter the playoffs 7-9 or 13-3? We are still in the post season and have a chance.
Think like a marketing exec.
