Alright People with cap knowledge
Who can we let go of without taking too much of a cap hit?
Who can we restructure without getting hit in the cap? |
Re: Alright People with cap knowledge
We save more if we trade Gallette....we take a cap hit but def get more benefits. We are also into the restructuring part of Brees contract. Also we can save if we cut bums like White, Robinson, Hawthorne. I also see us looking to bring Lance Moore back and parting ways with Meachem

Re: Alright People with cap knowledge
Cutting Evans, Colston, Bunkley and Hawthorne and restructuring Brees puts us something like 5 million in the black. I don't think any of those players would be missed at this point.

Re: Alright People with cap knowledge
OLB KJ Wright Seattle still gets my vote. he wont be cheap but he wont kill your cap either

Re: Alright People with cap knowledge
While I do believe some players need to go,I dont think that's our primary problem. I think there's some deeper, behind the scenes problems going on in that organization. There's too much of a drop off from last year to believe it's just a player problem.

Here's a good site. Click on the player and it will tell you their cap hit and dead money (what it would cost us to cut or trade them)
New Orleans Saints Salary Caps by Year A great example of why we can't cut or trade Jimmy Graham... His 2015 cap hit is 11 million, but it would cost us 11.9 million to cut him. Cutting or trading him would actually add to our cap. |

we're up **** creek through next year. we can't really start dumping old big contracts until after next season. Then colston, lofton, hawthorn, evans can get dumped, not before then

Re: Alright People with cap knowledge
Grubbs and Evans needs to be cut or traded. The line has become a joke. Brees has no time at all. This off season the o-line is a must fix. With a fixed o-line and I see us being at 9 wins right now.

In fact the only significant negative dead-money guys for 2015 are Byrd, Galette, Keenan, Streif, Vacarro and Cooks. Even cutting Graham wouldn't really kill you too bad since the salary cap is going up anyway. IMO, we would be smart to let Evans go. He's not a great player anymore and barely a good one most weeks. Not his fault, he's just got too many chronic injuries. Build around Armstead, Grubbs and Lelito, that's a damn good start on the OL. |

Say what you want about Loomis, but he has set the cap structure up in such a way that he'll never be handcuffed by it. |
Re: Alright People with cap knowledge
as i see it the only real option is Drew redoing his contract. Other than that the savings do not out weigh the cost of a replacement in most cases.
to cut anyone at this time would be an act of suicide. Cap and team wise. No depth and no replacements on the roster. Add pieces first then start the talk of cuts. we need to start laying the ground work now because 2017 is not that far away. 2017 is the magic year for the saints. just look at the site Danno posted. If we get lucky in the 2015 we maybe able to make a move or two in 2016 when the dead money hits become even less than what they are for 2016. |
