Junior Galette could earn $6.5 million in bonuses if he finishes season with 12 sacks
Junior Galette became a very rich man when he signed a four-year, $41 million extension earlier this year.
But he could become even richer if he manages to record five sacks over the next three games. Galette’s deal contains incentives that will pay him $6.5 million over the next several years if he manages to finish with 12 sacks this season. He’s currently stuck at seven with games against the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers remaining. According to a league source, if Galette hits the figure this season, he will earn a $2.5 million roster bonus in 2016 (the first year of his new deal) if he is on the roster on the third day of the league year. He will receive bonuses in 2017 ($1.3 million), 2018 ($1.3 million) and 2019 ($1.2 million) under the same conditions if he hits 12 sacks this season. If Galette does not reach the sack figure, his 2017 base salary of $2 million only becomes guaranteed if he is on the roster the third day of that league year. Of course, if he reaches 12 sacks, Galette still needs to be on the roster in those seasons to collect the bonus money. So, with the season winding down, Galette should have plenty of motivation to get after the quarterback over the next three weeks. His "motivation" is hurting us in run defense and opposing teams know that.

HATE this deal. Makes sense why he takes plays off and doesn't play run defense...

LOL. That's money he has no chance of seeing.

Re: Junior Galette could earn $6.5 million in bonuses if he finishes season with 12 sacks
They should have made his incentives for tackles instead of sacks
Then at least he would have to try in run support to achieve it rather than going for the sack every play. |
Re: Junior Galette could earn $6.5 million in bonuses if he finishes season with 12 sacks
This "Sack Incentive" is destroying our run defense. Offensive coordinators are running underneath him as he is "blasting upfield to infinity & beyond" after the QB, which leaves humongous voids for running backs to run. Some times the offensive coordinator can design plays off of Junior's dumb @$$ and have a host of O-lineman marching a parade escort 25 yards downfield in that void he left for the RB as Junior wonders where the ball is.
If he stays at home and maintains his gap discipline and plays team defense instead of going upfield all the freakin' time, maybe there wouldn't be so many breakdowns in the run game. But who knows? Maybe that's how RR draws it up. Or maybe that how Vitt coaches them up. Or maybe that's the scheme they're running on that particular play. Who knows? But to me, it looks pretty stupid (Caveat: Went loony & sideways there with the subject of Junior & money & sacks & run defense & incentives. My bad. Never medicate & write after the Saints get whooped by a NFC South rival) |

It's amazing how many people on our team make close to 10 mill a year.
