Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
1 Attachment(s)
Have we found the unit to hold teams under 21pts.....maybe 17ps if they're having a great day??
In my mind, that's all we need to win a division, win a home playoff game and take this show on the road. --------------------- Kenny Vaccaro, New Orleans Saints secondary respond to shakeup - ESPN Vaccaro was admittedly making too many assignment errors in his first season as a true strong safety -- including two very costly ones in last week's 41-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He said he was reacting before thinking and needs to learn patience. Payton ultimately decided Vaccaro was hurting the team too much in that role. But he still believed Vaccaro could be an asset if he played him to his strengths. "His preparation was outstanding," Payton said. "He played about three different spots tonight (temporarily going back to his old spot when replacement Jamarca Sanford was injured). He was outstanding." Vaccaro wasn't the only one who bounced back in impressive fashion as the Saints shuffled up their embattled secondary. Sanford and cornerback Terrence Frederick made their starting debuts, while cornerback Patrick Robinson moved to dime packages and Corey White was inactive. The Saints' top cornerback Keenan Lewis was stingy as usual, coming up with some big-time pass break-ups against dangerous receiver Alshon Jeffery. And the Saints picked off a season-high three passes against an extremely off-target Bears quarterback Jay Cutler -- one by Robinson on a tipped ball during the opening series and two by rookie safety Pierre Warren. Warren, an undrafted rookie who re-signed with the Saints last month off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, practically feels like a veteran already after filling the free safety spot that was vacated by season-ending injuries to Jairus Byrd and Rafael Bush. "It feels good because they brought me in to make turnovers, so doing that, doing my job, I just gotta keep going," said Warren, who explained that his first pick came in prevent mode in the final seconds of the first half and his second came from a tip by Lewis. "No. 28, 'Westbank,'" Warren said, using Lewis' nickname, "he had helped me out on that one. He had figured something out, so he told me to get over the top of him, and I was in the right place." |

If we can win the division, I don't think Arizona is as good as people think, we could get get a wild card win if we play with as much passion as we did last night.
They have a decent defense, but they are down to their 3rd QB, both their leading rushers are on IR and Larry Fitzgerald has been injured on and off all season. |
Re: Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
Zona or Detroit we can beat. Road or home.
Seattle and Packers worry me. |
Re: Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
So we start 3 players that we grabbed off the street alongside Lewis and it looked like our secondary's best game of the season?
Wow. |

Re: Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
Frederick looked really good. Much better then Briam Dixon and Corey White. Patrick Robinson shows flashes of greatness when he's not asked to be the man. Pierre Warren.....boy do I have high hopes for him. And Sanford looked good as well. He looks a lot better then Marcus Ball has.
And who know Hawthorne could rush the passer up the middle like that? We should do it more often. |

Re: Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
Until last night the Saints had a total of 8 picks on the year. The three last night accounted for just under a 50% increase. Even though it is Da Bears, there is something to be said about new blood. Opposing coordinators and QB's can't learn much about tendencies by watching game film. Players on the field for the first nine games aren't there, or are playing different positions.
It's much like when a starting QB is struggling and goes down and the back up comes in and lights up the D. It's all about what teams prepare for. It looks like the current D lineup is new enough to be somewhat of an unknown. Let's hope we can pick up a few more "W"s before opposing teams start to figure our new D out. |
Re: Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
No ones said it yet - Nice job Rob Ryan. That was a creative defense last night.

Re: Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
Anyone remember those games where our D made the opposing O look great. Or our O making an opposing D look much better than they are. The Bears game was a pityful effert on their part. Their O is in turmoil and their D well no where even close or even resembles the '85 Bears. What we played last night was a really bad team that made us look great. Now on the flipside I finally saw gang tackling, running to the ball on the D's side. On the O, much more crisp routes. When we play more of how we played last night(atually fundamentally sound football) on a consistant level(way more lows than highs this season to even mention) then I'll buy in to a good team thing. Also I never, ever, saw Hawthorn play as well as he did last night in a true 3-4 look. Jr. may not fit a 3-4 but looks good as a situational pass rusher( thats a lot of money for a 1 trick pony). All in all it was a needed win and a clean victory even if the Bears stink.

It seems like Vacarro is a better man defender then a zone defender. He also doesn't have great play recognition or awareness. You need them both to be a great zone player. He seems best suited locking up and following his guy. |

Let's only worry about one thing at a time. Win the next 2 then think about who we will play in the playoffs.

Re: Vaccaro, Secondary Respond To Shakeup
Well said. Since the defense is now made up of some new players at New positions the other three teams won't have time to prepare for the upcoming games. Perhaps Atlanta will be as surprised as the bears were? My biggest concern is the bucs though. Historically the saints have lost to teams that were more than statistically eliminated when the games really counted. I'm happy for the saints but they still have much to prove before they can slide into the post season. I suppose it's better to have a hot hand in late December and early January than it is to have a perfect season. Let's see what the saints wind up puking up next time.
