3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Will you be rooting for or against Galette?
---------------------------- @MikeTriplett does the bonus junior galette may get effect next years salary cap? @MikeTriplett: No, Junior Galette's bonus won’t start kicking in until 2016 if he earns it. But I’m glad you asked because I’ve been meaning to write about this as an intriguing side-note over the next two weeks. Galette has nine sacks this season, and if he gets three more, he’ll earn $6.5 million in future roster bonuses and escalators which are also tied to him being on the roster and/or playing a certain amount of snaps. He’d get a $2.5 million roster bonus in 2016, a $1.5 million roster bonus in 2017, a $1.3 million escalator in 2018 and a $1.2 million escalator in 2019. It’s an interesting clause because it gives Galette an incentive to go all-out for sacks over the past two games. I don’t envision that being a big problem, since that’s Galette’s primary role anyway. But still, it points out the inherent flaw in putting individual-stat incentives into a player’s contract. As for Galette’s upcoming cap costs, it’s also worth pointing out that his 2015 cap figure will be greatly reduced in the spring. Right now he’s scheduled to count $15.45 million against the Saints’ 2015 cap because of a guaranteed $12.5 million roster bonus. But that will almost certainly be converted into a signing bonus and spread out over the final five years of his deal, which will drop his 2015 cap hit to $5.45 million. |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
I would never root against anyone on our defense getting more sacks. I hope he gets more than 3.
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
I agree its his job to get sacks BUT putting in clauses like that is not a good idea. It leads to players going with mentality that means they chase the stats over the game. Say he needs one more sack in a game that the coach wants to rest him for the playoffs,or he has a injury and needs to sit out the week for the playoffs. Who isnt going to go chasing $6ml. I know i would

Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Considering we're gonna be using him as a situational pass rusher again because of his banged up knee of course I'll be rooting for him. How in the world could someone possibly NOT root for seeing Galette knock the snot out of Matty Melt?!

Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Go get 'em, JG ... mama needs new shoes, ;). bet.
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Yeah it's gonna get verrrrrry interesting if the Saints beat Atlanta with Junior getting 2 sacks, and then the coaches decide to rest him against Tampa Bay for the playoffs....
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
I hope he gets 10 sacks, lol!
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Seems like a terrible deal for the team to me. That's a huge bonus that seems unnecessary. The team has lost it's edge in negotiating contracts it seems to me.
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Seems to me it may have been structured as a 6.5 million reduction in pay if he doesn't perform.
It could be looked at either way. |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
I hope he breaks Derrick Thomas's single game record right in front of me.

Now SP seems to be a stat guy- he has left Ingram in late in games to get him to 100. and we all remember Drew still throwing when we were up 30 against Atl on MNF. If JG does play vs TB, and I was TB's coach, I'd let Gallete get 1 just to screw the Saints out of 6.5 mill |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
12 sacks to earn another $6.5mm.
Anyone else hear "personal goals" as an issue? |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Of course, it being structured as a 2016 roster bonus, he has to be on the team in 2016 to collect.
Oh, and I find this intersting... it’s also worth pointing out that his 2015 cap figure will be greatly reduced in the spring. Well there's 10 million knocked off our 2015 cap problems. |

Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
This contract is exactly the reason any read option quarterback makes it to the Hall of Fame - Galette too focused on the sack.

Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Isn't this the definition of bounty? I mean... someone might get hurt.
My point is that the bounty-gate was ridiculous. No one got hurt. |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Not much to be honest which is weird. But if anyone got those sacks i hope its not junior. We don't need to give that much to a player who can only play on one down.

I know what you meant, though. I know one guy that should have been priority number one on that list... Quote:

Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
even if he gets them his overall play this year says he should not be given the money
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
I hope he gets all 3 tomorrrow

#1: Junior Galette at 27. #2: JJ Watt has 23. Cam Jordan is 21st with 12. |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Do you guys know who leads the league in QB pressures?
That's right, our boy Gallete... go get your 3 sacks JR. I hope he is used as a pure pass rusher regardless of injury. He needs to be fresh every snap he takes. Edit: didn't see the comment above me lol... oh well |

Somewhat surprised to see Triplett make that statement... Galette's blown assignments playing all-out for the sack (and even then, he's only been effective against backup linemen) has been a huge factor in the Saints Defense regression... |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
"Situational" suits Galette best.
I'm really excited to see how Edibali plays today. |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
I would sit him next week. Wouldn't think twice about it.
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Id start Kasim Edebali next week.
To be honest id give as manyof the young fringe players a run out Kasim Edebali,Powell,Baptise. If its not to late for a roster change id bring Ryan Griffin in too and see what he has in a game |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Start all the young guys against Tampa. Lets see what we have.
And I'm including RG4 as well. |
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Regardless of his idiotic Twittering or his ineffective play against the run, Junior has worked his butt off and plays hard just about every down.
|
Re: 3 More Sacks Nets Galette $6.5mm
Nothing to worry about, that money is safe.
