Time for New Orleans Saints' brain trust to clean up this mess

Now that the New Orleans Saints have put their 2014 season to bed, it's time for the team's brain trust to go to work.

It's time for coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis to clean up this mess.

The Saints' 23-20 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the season finale on Sunday should do little to change the perception of this bitterly disappointing season -- inside or outside of the building.

You don't start a season with Super Bowl aspirations and end it at 7-9 without consequences, and my sense is there will be plenty in the weeks and days ahead.

I bet we see more player changes than coaching. If Brees is serious about this team he will do what he can financially.

I saw a general lack of passion and teamwork. I saw persistent mistakes that ultimately cost us games.

Get rid of the problems and retool the organization.

For the team to get better the players have to make it happen!

Many decisions must and will be made. Their will be many key point's to the Saint's off season. One will be the salery cap. Their will have to be a lot of restructuring if the Saint's want to keep some of their leaders. We lost to much leadership last year, and it showed on the field.

We must take advantage of our draft. Yes the Saint's have made some good picks in the later rounds. We need to find that impact player that can come in and be a game changer. A guy that will come in here and play with tenacity. Something the Saint's really lacked last season.

The Saint's season was also hampered by injuries. As I watched the games towards the end of the season. I kept asking myself who the heck is that. Injuries come and go, I know this. We can just hope they recover during the off season and come back strong.

But their is one thing that I saw this year, something was missing. Not only in the coaches & player's, but the fans as well. We lost our swagger, our hunger, we gave up. So early I heard the boo birds start their crying.

Even as bad as the season was, we were only a few bad calls, a few blown coverages, and a few interceptions away from the playoffs.

So bring on the New Year. Anticipation is already building until that first snap of a new season.

WHO DAT!!!!!!!

I think the same brain trust you are calling upon is the same group that made this mess since the super bowl win.

kool aid drinking fools. new catch phrase for the saints in 2014. one thing i can thank Rob for.

the market for coaches, scouts and such appears to be unlike anything we have seen in years.

we better add a few

I doubt Brees will do what Brady did. He's not commanding the endorsement money Brady gets. Family gotta eat.

The relatively small bump in base salaries gives Brady something in return for giving up the fully-guaranteed nature of the $24 million he was due to earn. In return for $3 million in money guaranteed for injury only, he’s accepting the risk that the Patriots will decide between now and September 2017 that he isn’t worth the money he’s due to make.

Meanwhile, it’s important to remember that the deal currently gives the Patriots not a penny of cap space. Instead, it frees up $24 million that would have been placed in escrow to fund the remainder of Brady’s base salaries.

If, however, the Patriots decide to cut Brady after 2015, they’ll now save $19 million in cash and cap space. If they decide to move on after 2016, they’ll save $10 million in cash and cap space. It seems unlikely that they’ll chose to do that; Brady’s base salaries for the next three years are a bargain in comparison to contracts given to lesser players.
