Kind of surprising this hasn't gotten out before now.

No question in my mind, Payton lost the locker room early on and couldn't keep order. A lot of people here laughed in preseason at Jimmy Graham's dunks and penalties, openly flaunting and defying Payton, and they said it wasn't a big deal. But I'm telling you, it sent a message early in the year to the younger guys, hey, you don't have to listen to coach, it's okay to be spoiled and just do whatever you want....once that set the tone, nobody listened to anything else the coaches had to say. If a bigshot star like Jimmy doesn't listen to the coach, and openly defies him, why should I listen to coach either? I'll just get drunk or high or miss film study or show up to the meeting when I'm good and ready, whenever I get around to it..

Worse than that, I hear on multiple occasions Albert Connel was surveying the locker room for unattended wallets.

What do you think Belichick would have done?

Bill would have sat Jimmy's ass week 1. Don't think so? Bill did sit Grey after rushing for 200+ and 3TDs because he was late for a meeting. That organization/coach knows what he is doing and controls the team completely. You play ball the way Bill wants or your ass is gone.

Apparently Payton has no backbone anymore because these players that missed meetings and planes would have been cut the next day if it were Belichick.

Edit: Remember Payton's meeting with 10 players? I bet a good portion of it had to do with this type of stuff, and Payton's meeting didn't do ****.

I'll take a different route here.
Maybe, just maybe Payton went to the "leaders" on his team and asked them if they could "deal with all the knuckleheads."
Maybe he trusted them.

Like any parent knows, you let your kids have a certain amount of freedom until they prove they can't handle it. Then you step in an handle it.
Lesson learned.

And defensive tackle John Jenkins was left behind on a road trip for a game for an unspecified reason early in the year.

Coach needs to find replacements for those players in FA and the draft this year and cut the weeds out to send a message. If we're not winning with you, we don't need you.

Maybe Coach will come down from the Ivory Tower and rebuild the team. Or he may move on like the Tuna did and shadow his mentor.

lmao and throwing up at the same time suxs

this team is a mess

I am late to work i get the eye the first time. a second i get questioned. the third time i risk a pink a pink slip.

I need a raise so i do not go through this kind of mentally taxing abuse.

lack of respect

to easy on the guys. throw out the CBA and make camp a living hell and fine them like there is no tomorrow. deal with the union later

a coach like a boss should never be a friend or drinking buddy.

old school is what this team needs. a swift kick in the a$$

players coaches office. all of them

Lack of discipline, attention to detail and accountability ... get ya' killed out there every time, just sayin'.. Sounds like the 'kids' just didn't take the whole thing serious enough.

Maybe coach didn't have enough fried chicken on the plane.

Sean got a little too loose with the team. Time to yank their chain.

Don't geaux there...lol

I'd build it into any Saints contract that unexcused absences, tardiness void performance, roster, escalator bonus...

That will remedy us from continuing to be That Team

This is probably the best thing I've ever heard Corey White say or do in an interview with NOLA.com ;

"If it was up to me, training camp would be back in Metarie. When you train in the blistering heat, you learn how to finish as a team and overcome adversity
"

Hit the nail right on the head, many of us said Greenbrier was too easy on the players and caused them to have a lackadaisical attitude towards playing.

Well we know Joe Morgan was one of them, and he was cut. Hopefully a few others will be cut as well

Coach went to the team leaders and asked them to help him control HIS team! Yeah, sure he did. If true he needs to be FIRED!

this still makes the top of the list of things to fix with the saints. i can not get this piece out of my head it

it :pissed: me off to no end.

There is a mantra in the military...if you can't pay attention to detail in the office & during exercises (i.e. being on time for work & meetings, doing your job during simulations), how in the hell can we expect you to help us win on the battlefield?

It's a whole attention-to-detail mindset for an entire organization...Payton lost this team from the get-go in 2014 apparently. Borrowing from Barney Fife, he did not "nip it in the bud" early enough. Folks being late for meetings & flights is not "fine worthy"...like somebody said earlier: that multi-Super Bowl winning Head Coach up in New England handles his business.

I dont see how people struggle to turn up on time. It drives me nuts, my sister is like it. Im on my walking to work now 05:33 , ill be there in 10 mins and I dont start till 06:15. Why? , leeway, if I wake up a little late or get stuck on the way in I have 30mind to make sure im not late.

Everyone will be late once in a while but it's generally the same people time and again. Its nothing but a lack of respect to your teammates, organisation and fans

I read a very interesting article the other day that correlates anxiety with being late. Basically, people who are habitually late are that way because getting there early makes them feel self-conscious without other people around to divert the attention.

Not that this has anything to do with the 2014 Saints, just maybe something to think about next time you're mad at your sister for being late. If it applies.

No way does that apply to her,she is a nurse is around people all day and the very outgoing. I'm the one who doesn't like being around people.

Interesting though as i have never heard that

Was SJB one of these players?

Re: Among Saints' issues: Too many guys late for meetings, flights

It doesn't matter who the offenders are. What matters is that Coach did lose the team which was evident on the field. He loosened his grip and paid for it. The coach must keep the respect of the players, treating everyone fairly no matter what their status is on the team. He has to set the tone and keep the team in line. it sounds like that never happened this year. I don't know why he was easy on the team in 2014. The evaluation of what went wrong starts with Sean Payton. A lack of discipline does affect what happens on the field.

To me it matters who the offenders are. I want them gone. If you can't hold up the standard then GTF outta here.
