Saints sign Kenny Phillips
Guess what... Another safety!!! |
Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
I loved Kenny Phillips coming out of Miami.

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
I loved him too... thought he was easily going to be a star. It just goes to show that great talent and athleticism doesn't always translate if you can't overcome the the mental aspect of the game.

Another safety?

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
I think someone needs to hold an intervention for Loomis... He's addicted to signing safeties.

I'll keep a lazy eye on him going forward ;). |
Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
A Pro Bowl-caliber safety early in his career, Phillips has lost a few steps because of chronic knee injuries. He missed the Eagles' past two preseason games with a quadriceps issue.
Kenny Phillips released by Philadelphia Eagles - NFL.com thus the futures contract. rolling the dice on yet another player with a long list of injuries grrrrrr. make matters worse yet another SS. I think we are a bit lost at what to do back there. |

Bye Bye Kenny (the other one)

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
So that's
Kenny Vaccaro, Jarius Byrd, Raphael Bush, Vinnie Sunseri, Marcus Ball, Pierre Warren, Jamarca Sanford, Corey White (Now Listed As A Safety On Roster, source: New Orleans Saints | Roster) Stanley Jean-Baptiste (Whose been listed as a Safety on Inactive Game Day Reports) and now Kenny Phillips Now, I really liked Phillips, he's just had the chronic knee thing going on, but, I mean, c'mon, are we trying to send one of the aforementioned a message?!? |
Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
This is to mentor Vaccaro type a deal.

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
I think it's Bush they let go. He didn't step up more as a player thats been here longer. I hope we get a good year from Phillips, I love his smarts and a hard hitter.

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
I feel like we might have a steal with Kenny Phillips. Byrd is injury prone his damn self.

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
Rob Ryan is just as mule headed as Spaz.
come hell or high water this system will work! Hey Rob you hit rock bottom again already. hint: safety aint the issue Rob. lets break that down a bit FS Jarius Byrd, Pierre Warren, Stanley Jean-Baptiste SS Raphael Bush Vinnie Sunseri, Kenny V is not a true SS as Rob and Kenny both admit now :dunce: So now let me get this straight :brood: Corey White at safety? his biggest issue is down field coverage and he is a safety? who has their head up where with this one. :dunce: the rest? we will see no loss if they walk. oppss i am relying on the same brain trust that cut warren and thought they had harpers replacement? yee haw drafting CB and singing FA CB must be high on the wish list for 2015. oppsss are we starting 5 or maybe 6 safeties next year? is that the new plan? Solution resign Harper |
Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
Let me guess, He's a BEAST!!! Thought so!

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
I am still a little skeptical that all parties involved have been telling the whole truth about Byrd's various injuries and surgeries. My eyes have yet to see him make a real difference in a game in a Saints uniform, so...it's looking like an interesting off season already.

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
My assessment on Vacarro is he just had a sophomore slump on a defense with no leaders to corral him in. Nobody can tell me they didn't think he was a star after his first year. I expect us to see him play at a high level next year. Bush is probably a cap casualty. And we can't trust Byrd to stay healthy. Thus, we have Phillips. Phillips is really good peeps. 82 tackles and 4 interceptions a couple years ago. As long as he's healthy...

Not that it matters, he might be playing QB for all he knows since no one actually talks to the players. Phillips is very impressive when healthy but he has been fighting injuries over the last few years, however if he has done a good job rehabbing over that time he might be healthy in 2015. Phillips is a true SS that plays coverage very well also, he is a very well rounded player. Assuming health is not an issue here is what the 2 and 3 Safety sets should look like next year: Two set: FS:Byrd SS: Phillips Three set: FS: Byrd SS: Warren S/NB: Phillips Vaccaro might be better suited to play CB since a lot of his time in college and in 2013 was covering the slot WR. Last year Vaccaro even matched up against guys like Steve Smith and Vincent Jackson so perhaps the solution to our #2 CB spot is there, maybe... At this point I think it's clear the team doesn't think Vaccaro is the best option at Safety, I just hope this isn't yet another defensive draft bust. Here are some highlights of Phillips for those of you who have not seen him play: |

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
Kenny P has the skills, highlights & hardware but can he stay healthy in Black and Gold? The bad wheel (knee) is a concern. Philly must have seen enough not to gamble on him a couple of years ago.
Time will tell. |

Re: Saints sign Kenny Phillips
It looks like the FO is trying to give RR the tools to succeed by bringing in more safeties.
