Another one bites the dust hey yay ya ya ya - Tavon Rooks

New Orleans Saints lose another from 2014 draft class after Tavon Rooks signs with Cardinals

It was a telling sign when the New Orleans Saints declined to add offensive tackle Tavon Rooks to their long list of players signed to a reserve/futures contract last week.

Such a contract would have added Rooks to the 90-man offseason roster and prevented another team from poaching him.

Instead, Rooks, a Saints 2014 sixth round pick, signed a futures contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.

If the Saints wanted to keep him they could have signed him to a futures contract. They didn't. That tells me they didn't want him.

Seems more like we chose to lose him. Either way you slice it's another draft pick that didn't work out. Maybe 6th round picks are throw away's anymore.

it is yet another swing and a miss for the saints

how long do you think they can hide behind a few early draft successes?

The thing to watch is what the cards do with him. could this be another bad move like Warren was? i doubt it I never thought the pick was any good any ways. but i will watching this one. the cards have done a great job with player personnel

I really don't know of another NFL team that drafts as poorly as the Saints. It's going to catch up to us soon, real soon.

We drafted most of the players from our Super Bowl team. Evans, Nicks, Brown, Bush, Thomas, Colston, Moore, Henderson, Smith, Porter, Harper, etc. It's not as bad as people try to make it. The draft is always a risk.

Maybe it is because we have drafted so high over the last 8 or so years but it sure seems we are swinging and missing in the draft. Where are the impact players drafted recently? I can't think of a single one. Sure we have some that show up some seasons (Jordan 1 out what 4), Ingram late last year and this year. Any others? Graham has probably been the best from the 3rd round.

I don't care where we find them (draft, FA, street) whatever just get us some hungry players that want to play. We don't have that now.

You realize 90% of those players came from 1 draft right?

One good draft in the last 10 years is as bad as it sounds.

Looking at that list - remember Chip Vaughn and Stanley Arnoux

Came out of that vaunted wake forest Defense that was incredible, Chip Vaughn barely made it out of training camp and Arnoux lasted half a season on the active roster.

Well said rez. It seems like we have quite a bit of negative nancies on here lately. So what our team didn't make it this year, there are 24 other teams in the same position right now and when it comes down to it there can be only one champion. That doesn't mean all hope is lost, it just means this team wasn't ready. Prime example is the cowboys. Last year they sucked, and this year they look like Americas team again. Though it is my belief that the NFC championship will be packers vs panthers. Anybody else have a prediction?

One good draft in the last 10 years is as bad as it sounds.

Jimmy Graham, Cam Jordan, Mark Ingram, Akiem Hicks, Kenny Stills, Kenny Vacarro, Terron Armstead, and Brandin Cooks come to mind within the last 5 years. I'll even throw Malcolm Jenkins in there. John Jenkins has shown flashes. It really hasn't been that bad. Like I said, the draft is hit or miss. This isn't Madden. You can't scout the players overall rating.

Your correct

Seattle drafted Aaron Curry

When we drafted Arnoux, many analysts said we had drafted arguably the same level of player but much less appreciated than Curry was

Aaron Curry, Stanley Arnoux and Chip Vaughn all fizzled out!

That wake forest defense was lights out on athleticism.

Aaron Curry I think. "The most can't miss project in a decade" and guess what, he missed big time.

Odd too, both Chip Vaughan and Stanley Arnoux played nearly every snap at Wake Forest and never got hurt. They were iron men!

We draft them and Vaughn goes to IR in training camp and Arnoux goes to IR before his 2nd season and neither one rebounded.

Sometimes I just think we're snake bit.

That 2010 draft class was just loaded. Whatever they did after 2010 started to work. They got way better at drafting. The Patriots might not be the best drafting team but at least they have a ton of picks to work with. We get like 5 picks a year and miss on about 4 every year on avg. instead we trade up and get rid of depth or potential starters because the FO likes what they see and ends up being the wrong choice or a bust. I love Cooks and i think he's going to be a stud, but how do you pick a WR in the first that wasn't named Beckham, Evans, or Watkins. Especially when you have Jordan Matthews, Jarvis Landry, and just bunch of other guys in a loaded WR class... That 3rd round pick could've been Chris Borland for all we know....

I'm for the drafting strategy that the Patriots use...tons of picks to work with, plus it gives you more leverage to trade up or down or trade established players. The odds are in your favor to hit with more picks, I reckon, kinda like at the casino.

Let me rephrase...the odds are still piled waaay against you in the casino, but the more numbers you cover on the roulette table the odds are better that you hit a winner eventually.

Unless there's a little ol' magnet under the wheel.
