Re: DOME PATROL

I have come to the conclusion that we are going to only hire a DC that has no say over picking their own staff to make our D consistantly stout. Whoever gets him as a DC will have a great D and a consistant one but it want be us.

Well, Rob Ryan did give us the 4th ranked defense two years ago... I see no logical reason he can't do it again, unless injuries hit hard again

It would be nice to actually acquire the pieces to run a 3-4 defense... But for some reason we need 37 safeties instead.

I thought it was over kill as well. Until the season started and we needed 36 of them.

We wouldnt need 50 million dollar safeties if we could bolster the front 7. Just look at Roman Harper in Carolina. He's not great but he certainly looks a lot better there then he did the last 3 years here. I hope we go front 7 in at least 2/3 of our first 3 picks. Dont get me wrong Byrd will be a stud, but look at the front 4 he had in buffalo. He could do whatever he wanted with those monsters on the line.

Whoever the DC is(it will be RR according to Payton) needs talent and the right assistant coaches who can teach.

Re: DOME PATROL

it is what it is. plug a few holes and give the rest to the offense. defense is not getting us back to the promise land.

NT and CB and if there is anything left maybe a LB

There was all this hype about this new look D. And we didn't get it.

I thought for sure they were going to replace OLB with Safties and have them come up and use a box and press like Seattle does and nothing like that.

Same could be said of Harper. That front 7 up in Carolina is one of the best in the NFL.

But think of what our 50 million dollar safety could do with a decent front 7 :bng:

If we could get to where Byrd has nothing to worry about but coverage

Thats what I'm saying. Now that we have him lets use him by making that front seven something to be reckoned with! I would not be mad if we drafted an ILB, DT, or OLB/DE straight in our first 3 picks.

I would not object to it but the window is almost closed with Brees. The best option, to win now, make the OL stout. That upgrade allows us to score and keep the DL off the field.

I'm also fine going D in the first three as well, as long as we pick a side and roll with it. Jim Finks use to always say, build your lines first and that is still true today. Our lines are weak on both sides and it's impossible to make both stellar. Our enemies are also upgrading but more of the best player available scenario. I would like to toss that scenario out and build a solid front, either side just flip a coin.

Not just that but having a great O-Line in place when Brees moves on will make the transition to the new QB a little easier. I really don't want to have to start rebuilding the line while the new QB is running for his life. Now's the time to start.

For some reason we don't teach physical toughness nobody is afraid of our LB's and DE's.

we did get it. problem is it took the rest of the NFL 6 games into the 2013 season to figure out how to beat it. Pats laid out the ground work and the jets perfected it. since then nothing has changed.
