Jeez, quick call Jerry Springer.

Still does not address his mental facilities. Will Benson prove that his mental prowess is still that of a teenage cat or that of a newborn kitten? Or, will it make RG pass a rule making owners name the current President, to include aliases, as in Barry Sorrento? Stay tune folks.

Re: Benson strikes back!

Bigger hurdle is the frozen assets in the trust and Benson having to shift the full appraised value of both clubs to shuffle the teams to another heir not in the original trust.

Will Rita etc prove Tom has lost his marbles? No, too hard to prove.

Will Benson get away with the trust fund shuffle? Yes, and millionaires get away with devaluing things to avoid taxes for inheritance etc.

In the end, I predict Gayle will get the team.... unless some more drama rears its ugly head that no one knew about.

Re: Benson strikes back!

He can sell the team out of the trust or swap assets equal in value. As the trust is likely to have leveraged the asset, its net-equity position may make that easier to accomplish, especially if the debt transfers over with the asset. It would be a real coup if he could leave the debt in the trust! Take that greedy, ungrateful heirs!

When was the last time he was seen in public. Not being seen in public is not a good sign and you can kinda read the tea leaves where this is going. Releasing statements says nothing about his mentality. That's the card Gayle has yet to show.

He met with the writers from NOLA.com this week and in another appearance was interviewed by WWL. Larry Holder said he appeared to be the same as he has been every other time he had met with him over the past several years. He's 87 years old and has very bad knees. I wouldn't expect him to be out and about much.

As for the "family feud", this didn't just happen. Rita has a long history of being undependable. Tom is just doing what he feels is best for the future of his holdings. Rita and her family are the ones that are incompetent, not Tom.

Re: Benson strikes back!

Just spoke to my insider. Same one who told me there was a locker room issue by game 3.

Rita is crazy. Rita has always been crazy. It's not been well documented but she's gone through a couple dozen assistants, been banished from the facilities and even checked into counseling.

Sad that it came to this and I really do feel for Tom Benson now.

OldMaid 01-28-2015 08:49 PM

Re: Benson strikes back!

Rita may not be a nice girl. Not too friendly, chatty. So what!!!!

It has been said by many in the media and by Benson that she has done well in learning HER FAMILY business. No, she was still always under her grandfather, but still, she did fairly well in learning from the bottom up.

This is a power play by the new wifey and her family and team.

It is sad for them to fall apart.

TB should really rethink who is really making a power play, using him, has an advantage here, the reasons why, and going against his wishes .

What will remain of his companies? They will not go to his heirs , but to Gayle's team of business supporters and her family and then what?
His legacy will be his companies will go his new wifey and her camp and family and from then, dismantled and sold off bit by bit, lost, etc.

Why the need to change what he had in place?

Gayle is not the one who wants to say he is suffering memory lost. That would do her no favor.
The kids, grandkids said this.
That is Galye's ace card with TB.
It is sad.

Say, where do you get all this from?!? Sources?!?

Benson met with the writers of NOLA.com and Larry Holder who are...employees of his?!? Why not other third party news sources who may have been a little more objective?

Bad knees or not, has he spoken in public with the same clarity and purpose as he has in the past? And if anything, even if it were in a Professor Xavier maglift wheelchair which he could certainly afford, or even a six Egyptian slave litter he should be out in public reassuring the fanbase if he's truly competent, able...

Family Feud didn't happened? There was obviously something that happened for him to fire off the letter just after Christmas...

Do you have evidence, experience of Rita's long history of being undependable other than what may have been stated by Benson's lawyers?

As far as Rita being incompetent, there seems to be some conflicting information...

Source: New Orleans Saints' Rita Benson LeBlanc stands out in a crowd of NFL suits

See what I did there?!?

Rita may be a brat and Gayle may be a gold digger, but some of these accusations being thrown around are premature and this legal fight may/may not shake out some things in public...

But if you have evidence or sources of what you've stated - Please, do share...

You appear to be severely misinformed. NOLA.com and Larry Holder have no affiliation with Tom Benson. Holder works for NOLA.com and it is owned by Advanced Publications which is owned by the Samuel Newhouse family as it has been for over 50 years.

The information came from postings by Larry Holder himself in the comments section of a story on the Benson counter-suit in response to questions from readers.

As for the family feud happening, if you would take the time to reread my response you will see that I did not refute a feud, I just stated that there has been issues going on for the past few years. It is nothing new. A couple of years ago Rita was banished from the organization for several months. When she was finally let back in from her "time out" it was with FAR less responsibility.

Re: Benson strikes back!

jeanpierre - In response to the article that you posted are three articles chronicling when the "shyte began hitting the fan", coincidentally shortly after the January 2012 date on the article you posted.

Jason La Canfora (January 21, 2015). "Rita Benson LeBlanc out as Saints owner/ vice chairman". CBS Sports. Retrieved January 24, 2015. Benson LeBlanc has had a tumultuous relationship with her grandfather and with many key figures within the team's hierarchy, and was suspended by Tom Benson for three months in 2012.

Brian Solomon (April 23, 2012). "Billionaire Tom Benson Benches Granddaughter, Presumed Heir, For Her "Sense Of Entitlement"". Forbes. Retrieved January 24, 2015.

Jeff Duncan (April 22, 2012). "Rita Benson LeBlanc's conspicuous absence at high-profile events leaves some wondering about her future with N.O.'s sports franchises". The Times-Picayune. Retrieved January 24, 2015.

Rita has been on a downward spiral over the past several years in relation to the operations of the Benson holdings. There could have very well been a final straw that broke the camels back very recently, but it has been well known that Miss Rita was working her way out of the job long before now.

As for my mention of Holder's comments, I have not been able to track those down. I read dozens of articles every day and hundreds since this all came out.

Sorry OM.

Rita's bat-$hit crazy.

She was offered multiple opportunities to succeed.

She eroded trust over many years and it cost her financial independence.

Hopefully, one day I can purchase the Saints and our problems will be solved.

So why is this other kid out of the picture?!?

Why is Dawn Benson Jones (daughter of Tom Benson's only son, deceased) not a member of the succession trust?

Seems like Benson will fail in his attempts to change the direction of what he set forth in the trust; plus, there's the fact that the NFL has pre-approved a succession plan - are a few owners gonna want to sit through another meeting detailing who gets the Saints when Benson finally expires?!?

No, this is yet another "public sighting" in the last two days after you claimed he hadn't even been seen. And he seems as normal to me as any other average 87 year-old. There is a vast difference between being old and being incompetent.

Why the hate on Benson?

According to Roger Goodell, he talked to Tom Benson just a "couple of days ago" and he "seemed fine to him", "was in complete control, energetic" and "asked about league issues."

Well, this is what was posted, so I thought, wow, that's pretty significant...

Then when I google to see Benson swung in for a thirty second response to a question from the passenger side of a car seat driven by one of the combatants, well, after watching the video, well the statement with the video was laughable...

Is Benson Bigfoot?!? YET another public sighting? Again, when did I claim he hadn't been seen? Go back and read my exact statement...

Most average 87 year olds are either dead or they would be incapable of managing an intricate, detailed business much less the helm of a vast sports management business such as the Saints/Pelicans...

Hate? More lack of confidence and trust in his decision making; let me remind everyone of his relocation plans post Katrina...

Source: Tom Benson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And look, Rita may very well be a spoiled, 'bat-sh*t' crazy gal - but let me remind everyone that she was the one who came out to take the heat and stand by the last credible NFL Commissioner, Paul Tagliabue, to reassure a community that the losses incurred from that cataclysmic event wouldn't include the Saints...

Rita may not be the answer, but Tom Benson's past behavior is less than reassuring...

I think the biggest issue in this won't be Benson's competency, but whether or not he has the assets to replace the Saints and Pelicans in the trust. That is probably going to end up being the biggest issue in this in the long run.

The latest proposal given to the trust manager is said to be balanced enough to accomplish clearing the franchises from the trust. That no longer appears to be a hurdle.

Yes, Benson obviously saw that Rita is not the answer. He sees Gayle as that answer. She appears to be intelligent and well grounded enough to let Saints and Pelican management do their jobs. Rita is the one that I would fear liquidating the franchises.

As for 87 year-olds, I have known quite a few that are very cognizant. My great-grandfather was in his 90's when we sat watching Armstrong step foot on the moon. He told me a very detailed story of driving to North Carolina from South Dakota and meeting the Wright brothers as they were preparing their first flight.

Benson works six days a week. That is proven to keep a mind sharp even while the body ages. You do not become as successful as Benson without being very intelligent. He knows he is likely in his end years and also knows that Rita is not the answer. I fully trust his judgement.

Trending Summary - New Orleans Saints Words from Roger

Goodell said the dispute over Benson's plan to transfer ownership to his wife Gayle, rather than a family group led by his granddaughter Rita Benson LeBlanc, was "unfortunate." Goodell said he recently spoke to Benson by phone and the owner was "in his office, as usual" and was "excited about getting to the office, asking about league issues. As you know, he's been one of our more active owners in the league on various committees."
