You know what really made me envious watching the SB?

Was the high level of play by both teams DBs from Revis all the way down to Butler on the Depth chart. Now i understand these were the two best pass defenses, but still. From richard sherman to at times jeremy lane/ Tharold Simon, and the other seahawks DBs. At times they didn't play great, but for where they were on the depth chart it was incredible. Its not like they were getting burned constantly, it was tight coverage with very well placed balls that could've been played to either sides favor. We don't even have a second starting CB who can stick with a WR past a half second. Now Brian Dixon/ Terrence Frederick did well and will probably improve with Dennis Allen coaching, but watching Corey White and P-rob just made me sick all year. I feel like these guys have the tools but something isnt quite there.
Just had to rant that out real quick i'm sure most of you feel the same.

I was envious watching Edelman. Scary to think what Brees could do with him.

I was envious of the constant pressure NE was able to put on Wilson. And when you look at Brady's int at the end of the first quarter, that was attributed to Seattle's defensive line as well. As long as you can generate pressure, you make lesser players look much better than they really are.

Oh trust me i know thats why I think we need to build up that front 7 more than anything. We have most of the tools in the secondary we need. Just even when they couldn't get pressure the DBs were there to back them up. And on those long pass plays they were in great position almost all the time, just the ball went Seattle's way more times than not, except when it really mattered most I guess, but their luck had to run out sooner or later.

We have Cooks, and I believe he could become twice what Edelman is, not to knock JE in any way. Edelman showed great hustle, something that I haven't seen our receivers really do since 2011.

Looking at things like punt and kick returns, as well as passing plays, made me realize that we have a really SLOW team. Slow and long in the tooth. Most of those guys on both teams are easily a step or two faster than almost ANY of our guys, except maybe Cooks and Saunders. Especially Seattle's defense -- the Saints look spectacularly SLOW, by comparison.

NE linebackers (true SB heroes). Scary group. That speed is unreal. Yeah, I'd like to have freak of nature like Collins.

Don't forget Bobboy Wagner for Seattle too. We MUST draft LB in the first 1-2 rounds. I will write us off in May if we do not improve that LB corps with actual talent/ solid players. I hope we draft two in the first 3-4 rounds to be honest.

Whoever these two teams receivers coaches are I really like because they had incredible bursts off the line, which was also amazing to watch how the DBs kept up so well.

Yep, always been that way in the NFL, starts up front. The Giants beat the only team to go 16-0 in the regular season, and they did it because their dline.

We lot on both sides of the line last season. Hence our record.

When our d was ranked 4rth it was primarily due to the play of our dline and ability to get after the pass rusher.

+1 Brees 84 -

I'm very impressed with Collins. Dude is all over the place making plays and his name was constantly called ... not just last night but the entire season.
I often wonder how much interest our scouts had in him being so close to home (University of Southern Miss) ??

I must say NE has a very good scout group.

Re: You know what really made me envious watching the SB?

look at the all players you all have mentioned. then think about the ones you skipped then look at this

Total Cap Number: $150,980,797 (Top 51: $150,980,797)
Offense: $68,698,888 Defense: $67,561,257 Special: $585,500
Patriots are projected over the cap by about $5.2 million.

getting under the cap wont be all that hard for them either. couple of hard cuts and retooling they will be right back in it. this was the year for big push and the reason for such large short term contract the past two and three years.

super bowl in 2014

we have a long way to get our house in order.

Yep, it's really not that complicated of a game. Kinda' funny how the teams that do that best rise to the top, eh? :)

I was envious seeing Ninchovich. We really let one get away there. He has been more than solid for them for a while now. We let him go twice.

Makes you really question the judgment of our FO. Albeit it was early in the SP era, but they wanted him at LONGSNAPPER. So i don't know whether to attribute it to Ninkovich becoming better because of failure, belichicks supreme coaching ability, our coaching staffs judgment, or just a mix. Things that make you go hmmmm....

Seattle's DBs may get all the press, but they have an amazing pass rush, in waves, with pass rushers to spare...
