Judge rules Tom Benson needs assistance in managing assets
 

While not a ruling that Saints owner Tom Benson lacked sound mind when recently changing his will to freeze out a daughter and her children from running his NFL and NBA franchises, a judge in San Antonio found Monday that Mr. Benson requires assistance in the management of his assets.

Via Katherine Sayre of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Judge Tom Rickhoff determined that Mr. Benson is facing “tremendous pressures” and that it would be “reasonable and safe” for someone to assist him.

Mr. Benson’s lawyers opposed the decision, but the judge decided that the appointment of a pair of receivers to assist with the management of the assets will “calm[] everything down” while other litigation proceeds in New Orleans.

The judge explained that lingering questions about decisions made by Mr. Benson — which weren’t clarified at last week’s hearing because he chose not to testify — influenced the outcome.

Mr. Benson decided last month to transfer the Saints and the NBA’s Pelicans to his wife, Gayle, upon his passing. Daughter Renee Benson and her children, Rita and Ryan LeBlanc, immediately filed suit to challenge the move.

One of the locals near Grand Isle told me that it's common knowledge in those parts if you want to get rid of something forever, with no trace, the alligator farm down the road is a certified option. If I were Rita I'd keep some gator repellant in my purse and take some aiming lessons.

Now, would anyone like to revisit the events of Roger Goodell's Bountygate and care to speculate had Mr. Benson been in better, stronger mental health that the Commissioner would have faced more of a challenge on his unilateral, abusive bullying powerplay?!?

Before any Benson apologists geaux off crying, consider the question a prudent, fair question now as information is being disclosed and coming to light...

You mean a man with business ventures worth billions of dollars and two professional sports teams need assistance managing his assets?? No **** SHERLOCK!

I don't need a lame-ass judge to tell me Benson is "under pressure".... What the hell does a judge know about that kind of pressure anyway???

Let's get it straight - TOM BENSON built his empire.

Not Rita.
Not the estranged daughter we've never heard of.
Not the ex wife.
Not anyone else who's name isn't TOM Freakin' BENSON.

They are not assisting, they are monitoring. So if Benson tries to move a significant of money before the final ruling, the two "receivers" can document it. Does anyone actually believe a court-appointed accountant is going to tell Benson how to handle his money?

Everyone lucky enough, gets old. Keeping your mind is a bonus for sure if you get there. If Benson IS actually in his right mind, he has nothing to fear. If he is NOT in his right mind, then Rita is doing the right thing.
We just have to wait and see.

Imo Benson should do whatever he wants with his money. Parents are under no obligation to leave their kids one red cent beyond what they have bought into or earned. If he wants to whipe is ass with 100s that his his business. If his kids saw that he was slipping mentally they should have set up power of attorney while he was still able to maintain his wits. That would have settled things immediatly instead of putting the entire families name and reputation in the publics faces.

And that's exactly what he did. He made a business decision - an otherwise wise one - only now he's changed his mind. Unfortunately for him he now has to navigate the "system". Nobody forced him to do what he did with all that money and those assets. This is simply how the game is played.
