Hot Seat - Mike McKenzie
Most of us agree that Mike McKenzie has been a wise addition to our defense, but ugly questions linger regarding what type of money he'll demand this offseason. His stats: 2004 - 11 games, 33 tackles, 0 sack, 5 int, 7 pass def 2003 - 14 games, 57 tackles, 0 sack, 1 frc fum, 4 int (1 TD), 14 pass def 2002 - 13 games, 66 tackles, 1 sack, 1 fum rec, 2 int, 10 pass def 2001 - 16 games, 64 tackles, 0 sack, 2 int, 14 pass def 2000 - 10 games, 32 tackles, 0 sack, 1 int, 5 pass def 1999 - 16 games, 65 tackles, 0 sack, 6 int, 12 pass def I'm not sure these are "top five" CB numbers, but that's the kind of money he was demanding from the Packers. And it's true that stats don't measure heart and leadership, something our defense desperately needs. But if McKenzie demands top five money, holds out, etc. is he worth the trouble? I know we all want to keep him, but at what point do we refuse to pay up? |
