Contract talks with P-Rob

1 Attachment(s)
The Saints have held preliminary contract discussions with cornerback Patrick Robinson and there is “mutual interest” in reaching an agreement, according to a source.

Robinson, a former first-round pick, is set to reach free agency. If a deal is not reached, the cornerback will be free to sign with another team when the league year begins on March 10.

Robinson served in various capacities last season before settling into the slot, where he held opposing quarterbacks to a 57.5 quarterback rating, according to Pro Football Focus. If he is brought back, the Saints would likely eye him for a similar role next season.

How about the Saints offer to pay his cab fare to the airport? Sounds good to me

Say what you want, but Patrick Robinson has shown slivers of talent at times; I don't see anything wrong with allowing Dennis Allen the chance to work with him.

Just look how he had Tracy Porter playing...

Mister inconsistency and "WTF just happened highlight reel". No thanks.

Waiting on potential is what gets GMs fired

well apparently; those involved think otherwise seeing as there is mutual interest in a new deal...

He did really well as the nickelback this past season. It took a while but I think everyone finally learned that he just isn't suited for playing on the outside. He's been a class act throughout his struggles and shown great perseverance so I have no issue with bringing him back to compete for the nickel job.

If its for the vet minimum then I guess. Just I didn't like the pick then and haven't liked his play of the field, would rather him gone. Its bad when I'm at home and can tell where the opposing QB is going to throw the ball

saintsfan1976 02-23-2015 01:43 PM

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

Sure he's worth vet minimum at least.

As long as he's not a starting outside CB he should get a chance to start at nickel back.

Keep in mind; we need depth at CB! Don't tell me you're counting on White or Breaux or SJB (aka UFO)

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

I expect nice things from Dixon. He got beat covering top players (AJ Green...) or he had to defend some perfect throws without safety help. Otherwise he looked good in rookie year.
Miles freakin Austin owned Prob.

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

PRob got abused all season long even after the benching he came back as a liability in coverage. Chalk another up another one to the horrible defensive scouting that WAS going on under the guy who got fired

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

It has been mentioned a few times on this board but is it coaching or scheme with P Robinson? We are on year 4 (not counting the IR season) but as a late 1st rd selection (seems like ages ago), he really should have stepped up his game by now.

Without an upgrade to our D line & overall pass rush, I expect more of the same from Robinson. Good teams would have cut ties with him by now.

Obviously he's never lived up to expectations which has been disappointing... but there's a place for him on this team at the right price.

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

We ballsed up spending a first round pick on a guy that would still have been there early 3rd round.

That being said, he should be signed for league minimum because he knows the system and played better in nickel situations.

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

Ick....the fact we're going to re-sign this guy shows how desperate we are at corner.

He has been a good character guy and occasionally flashes some potential, but he's just not been very good.

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

As much as he has been a let down, I personally would much rather have him out there than White. White can't play man or zone, P-Rob can at least fit into one role.

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

First we have to accept that P-Rob will never live up to that #1 pick
after that, you have to ask, is he a top 5 DB for us? unfortunately, probably yes
You can't replace everyone

Great news. We need all the CB help we can get.

Junior Galette disagrees.

He would of seen the field sooner if this front office would of cut Will Smith two years earlier than they actually did

And that would still be 3 years of waiting.

One area he was underrated in was his special teams play

That's the positive approach to what has been a less than fruitful first round selection...

And I can totally get on board with a performance-based contract and see what could happen with Dennis Allen thrown into this equation...

Say what you want but I can't see 3 CB's on this team that I would say played better after his benching. At the right price id be glad to have him back.

Dixon played ok but he got beat like a drum at times also...we have to bring in a #2 CB

I would also add Terrance Frederick and Dixon to the mix. These guys also had "flashes" last season. Surely Allen can coach them up just the same.

Edit : SJB ... for a moment I forgot to include our 2nd round corner. How sad.

p rob at min for nickle and dime work as well as a body for depth? i could deal with it. hang your hat on him on the outside? i am starting any all WR on my fantasy team against the saints.

if the saints line up with that freaking seven yard cushion again next year i will be buying a new TV for week 2

I am sooooo disappointed in our team for even considering keeping PRob. Disgusting. Guess they just want to make the playoffs and that's all.

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

Without a pass rush anyone not named Darrell Revis is going to have a hard time covering WR's. Allen will evalueate every CB we have. I don't see how White regressed last season at all, he was a really good slot CB the season before. The lack of a pass rush and a sad a$$ lb. core has killed this team. I'm hoping the Saints see this and get the players needed to at least stiffen up our pathetic D. I'm not looking for a miricle just something on a consistant level other than being near the bottom of the junk pile.

saintsfan1976 02-24-2015 06:34 AM

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

We're also talking about a player who's come back from TWO season ending injuries.

Imagine that.

First round pick, three defensive coordinators, two major knee injuries.

And he's still fighting for a position and giving effort.

I'm pulling for him.

Re: Contract talks with P-Rob

PRob has character, but questionable talent at any position. I hope the front office isn't trying too hard to keep him around.

Questionable as a starting outside CB, not as a role player making a salary proportionate to that role.

That's OK, he's forgettable. Clearly a mistake to have taken in 2nd round. May the pick be rescued by some creative coaching in the next year or so (just in time for him to go FA).

p-rob has played better in situational /nickel as the season went on,the bench is what saved his days in nola.
