Middle-round QB's

If the Saints were to draft a QB in the middle rounds of the draft, there are a few I saw today in the East/West Shrine Game that I would make very interesting selections:

Stefan Lafors: Louisville (6', 200 lbs.)-Not a big guy in stature, but a giant in heart and competitive fire. Extremely accurate in throwing on the run. Questions about his arm strength were answered as he threw several passes for 30+ yards WITH ACCURACY! Left-hander with great speed and mobility. Reminded me a lot of Steve Young. Baton Rouge native could be good for local flavor. Completed over 70% of his passes his senior year with only TWO interceptions, for the top ranked offense in college football.

Kyle Orton: Purdue (6'4", 225 lbs) Prototypical size for a pocket passer. Nice, strong arm with touch and accuracy on the deep ball. Got into a roll in his only quarter of play, and excelled throwing for almost 150 yards and a TD. Threw for over 2800 yards and 28 TD's as a senior for the Boilermakers and only 5 INT's. 62.3 % completion percentage doesn't look too shabby, either. Not very mobile, but has good awareness and quick release.

Timmy Chang: Hawaii (6'2", 195 lbs.)- One of the quickest releases I've ever seen. Very aware in the pocket. Put up huge numbers in his career at Hawaii under June Jones' fun-n-gun offense. Not as accurate as the other two mentioned, but threw 556 times as a senior (214 more than Orton and 325 more than LaFors). Interceptions decreased every season from 22 in '02, to 20 in '03, to 13 in '04. Looked kind of nervous today and threw into coverage (one going for an interception), but with good coaching and bulking up, could be a decent choice. I didn't get to see as much of him as I liked to have seen today, but I'd seen him a few times before playing against Louisiana Tech since Hawaii is in the WAC. Always seemed to impress me.

Of the 3 QB's mentioned here, I really liked Lafors and Orton the best. Lafors because of his gutsy play, and Orton for his size and arm strength. Just thought I'd give a little scouting report of these guys and see what you guys thought about it.

LeFors looked good in that game today. He showed good mobility as he escaped the rush several times. One of those TD passes for 37 yards was made while he was running to his left. Louisville had one of the highest scoring offenses in college football this year, so he must have some talent.

He had 20 touchdown passes and 3 ints this season, along with a 74% completion percentage. Not bad

I\'d be interested in looking at Andrew Walter out of Arizona State in the 3rd round or early 2nd day.
