They're fair game... But players with expiring contracts have to wait until free agency begins to sign elsewhere.

I could see Oakland, Cleveland or Jacksonville way overpaying for him and making him a starter. I just wish Loomis didn't wait until the last second to get under the cap. I want some news!

This thread was meant to be tongue in cheek because Inevidably every year someone makes a thread titled "why haven't we signed anyone yet" literally 10 seconds after free agency starts. The Saints have never really moved quickly in free agency. They usually bide their time to see how things are shaking out. We can sign released players but it could be a good sign you don't see the FO jumping on other teams cast aways. I wonder if Reggie Bush had any gas left and will come cheap.

Yeah, as long as McMahon is still on the staff they aren't even done with those changes.

I know we usually dive into free agency slowly. However, this is the year that we will have our eye set on one of three young CB's, DT, OG, OC and possibly a LB'er. When free agency starts we will be bringing in prospective players as quickly as we can so we can tie them up in a contract. Much like we did Byrd but at hopefully a much better price. I see us signing three upper mid tier level talent with the growth potential we got from Lewis.

Making changes to this team is what SP said. Then, he chickened out. Changes?? What changes? What SP did was a complete joke. It's still the same ol, same ol modus operandi. Changes that needed to be made weren't, like ST coach who has had the worst ST's in the league since he came here. The ST's are laughable to say the least. O-Line coach, our O-Line has steadily gotten worse year after year. LB coach, A, we've NEVER been able to draft even a decent LB. Any LB that has been any good, we've had to get from another team. Our LB coach has NEVER developed even a starting caliber LB on his own. D-Line coach, there are O-Lines that we've faced that are a joke and we can't even get one sack against. We have probably the most inconsistent D-Line in the league. One year they're good the next they're the worst in the history of the league. So SP comes out and says changes are coming and what does he do? He fires the Riprish, ok that 's a pretty good start, then some other lacky assistant coaches and everything else is status quo. What the h....? No changes that could possibly affect the play of this team. Just lip service. There were better coaches out there and we didn't even try to get them. I'm looking very seriously at what this team does in FA and the draft this year, and if it's the same ol, same ol, I'll just check in at the end of the season and see if we do better than 6-10 cause this team is on the down slide and I don't think we've seen the commitment necessary to get this team back to where we were just 5 years ago.

Marlboro, dont you think Jeff Ireland and Dennis Allen will help? I know we still need help on Special Teams but those 2 hires are a start. I think to much change can actually be a bad thing and send mixed messages through the organization. Who knows?

Our special teams did look a hell of a lot better toward the end of last season once Saunders took over return duties.

Saunders may have saved McMahon's (sp) job because he should have been long gone ...history, curtains.

Definitely agree, as bad as special teams were I think a lot starts with the returner though

Look at our last couple punt returners -

Reggie Bush - runs sideways
Darren Sproles - runs sideways
Brandin Cooks - runs sideways

How are the guys on special teams supposed to set up blocks without getting called for holding when the returner doesn't head upfield, just runs sideways looking for a gap.

That's what I like about Jalen and why I think he was successful, he didn't need a huge gap, he trusted his blockers and went with what he saw.

We haven't had a kickoff return TD since November 15th, 2009... But Saunders was soooo close last season. I look forward to him ending that drought this year.

We haven't had a non-offensive TD since week 17 2012. Any change that helps us get some of those will help us tremendously, and I think Dennis Allen might be the key!
