Re: Lofton being shopped?
Lofton is a 2 down LB in 3 down clothing.
I defended his tackle total but that may have been more due to sheer number of snaps. He missed A LOT of tackles last year.... |

Re: Lofton being shopped?
We have the crappiest defense in the league. There isn't a player on this defense that should feel safe.

First, you do realize the 1.9 billion Benson is worth is derived from his total assets right? Are you dumb enough to think he has 1.9 billion liquidated to spend at his will? Secondly, litigation cost an enormous amount of money, but you don't seem to understand they could have frozen portions of his assets that are in dispute. Third and most importantly, the salary cap has nothing to do with what a team spends in a single year on payroll. Do you know what restructuring contracts entails? Apparently not, but let me break it down for you. In many restructures a player's compensation will be converted to a signing bonus. When this occurs the player is paid a lump sum up front while the CAP HIT is spread out over the life of the contract. This means by performing multiple restructures for multiple players you can far exceed the salary cap spending limit on a year by year basis. However, this can cost the owner of the team millions of dollars that might not be viable for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are one of these falcon fans that gets amazed by Loomis signing players and keeping players on the payroll year after year. The litigation COULD (notice I said could, as in possibly) be a reason why no restructuring is taking place. Edit: Benson's assets relating to the team are frozen... My guess would be with Hawthorn not being released and Lofton getting shopped we may be finally converting to a 3-4 D.

Also a lot was said about the lack of veteran leadership last year and now dumping PT and Lofton, two of the leaders we have left. Might as well dump Colston and Evans as long as we're gutting any semblance of Veteran presence. |

How do you know Lofton and Pierre weren't part of the problem? I do recall hearing PT in particular was upset about Sproles being traded. Colston did not live up to his contract, neither did Evans. |

If we can get something good in return for Lofton, then I don't think its a bad move. A 7th rounder? No F'ing way... but if its a mid rounder we should really listen. And as holloween said, maybe we're trying to acquire solid 3-4 players instead of tweeners. |
Re: Lofton being shopped?
PFF docked Lofton for 22 missed tackles in 2014 while giving him poor marks against the run and in coverage.

Re: Lofton being shopped?
I hate to say it, but if Lofton is dealt, he will not fetch more than a 5th-6th round pick. If this report is true, it means the Saints have decided to part ways due to cap reasons and are trying to get a little something before cutting him.

Has anyone seen how bulked Vaccaro has looked lately?!?

Re: Lofton being shopped?
That's what has me p**sed the most about PT, leadership was a huge question mark last year so we salary dump a veteran. Brilliant

Re: Lofton being shopped?
If Lofton goes we lose another veteran. If he stays we still have a two down backer(playing three downs) who is a liability in coverage with a high payroll.

Vaccaro is not a safety. You need instincts to play safety not speed, unfortunately Vaccaro lacks both. |

Let's see what Kenny V does in year 3. He now has a healthy ball hawk in Byrd lined up next to him for 2015 :saintsfan:. |

Maybe you missed it but everyone missed a **** ton of tackles last year. Generally I would say he is one of the better tacklers on the team, in his rookie year he was great in this aspect. Secondly, you've got to be joking about the "slow" LB... he ran a 4.5 40 which would make him one of the faster ILB in the league... Kenny either gets moved to a different spot or he ends up a bust of a draft pick. He can't play safety. |
Re: Lofton being shopped?
Who's going replace Lofton?
|
Re: Lofton being shopped?

other than that i really do not see anyone as a starter or even peeks my curiosity to see if they can be a starter. maybe we are not having ILB and replacing them with more safeties. 3 DL 2 OLB 2 CB and 4 S |
Re: Lofton being shopped?
After having a pair of turnstiles as LBs last year i think making a change to sand filled traffic cones might be a bit better. I Guarantee they will be better in coverage
