And now Galette is on the block?

And eveything comes out today. "@JohnMiddlekauff: I've been told DE/OLB Junior Galette is also on the block"

Saints peddling several bad contracts via trade but unlikely they have success moving Lofton, Galette or others. Way over cap. Cuts looming

Is Juniors a bad contract though as we are hit with his guaranteed money this year

Wow it sounds like we are really cleaning shop!

You never know, someone like Colston could be next...

Organisation is moving on quickly!

That was such a dumb contract. We had him locked up cheap for 2 more years at the time. We're blowing this thing up.

Could be a long couple of years with all the cuts

Or it could be another 2006.

I think there are a few big free agents we're targeting.

I really hope so, it would be strange if all this happened and we didn't sign anyone!

Going to have to eat some big amounts of dead money though dumping these contracts if nobody bites. Short term pain/long term gain i guess. Just worried we waste Drews final 2/3 years

Re: And now Galette is on the block?

Good .... he should of been cut the second after he was arrested, screw the trade just cut his one trick pony ass and eat the cap space now

Re: And now Galette is on the block?

If true, it's a bad move.

They need to restructure his contract before trading him...

Why shop Lofton... I hope that means they are cutting Hawthorne as well.

Gallete was our best rated defensive player by a mile...
Lofton was our best rated ILB by a mile...

Meanwhile Vitt and Johnson still collect paychecks. Got to say, I am starting to doubt the front office.

I know some of you think this means we are targeting free agents, but with the litigation that Benson is in he may not have the free capital to restructure contracts and sign free agents.

It's difficult to see because it's all happening behind the scenes, but I get the distinct feeling that maybe Payton doesn't feel too hot on the guy anymore. Regardless of what really happened, he said/she said -- just having all that stuff in the newspaper and in the news, is a coach's worst headache imaginable. I mean who wants to deal with THAT at the press podium on Monday through Friday between games.... And once Payton makes up his mind and decides he doesn't like you, you're pretty much dead to him, it's over. With the team in the state it was in at the end of last year, I could easily see them moving on from Junior, just because of the off season character issues.

Message sent, mind game complete.

Junior will now toe the line.

Between the unnecessary investment in Galette and then orchestrating that abomination of a draft, I'm convinced Loomis got into Irsay's stash last offseason. We have no-one to replace Galette but I guess they have a plan.

Re: And now Galette is on the block?

I think Gallete burned his trained possibilities and they will end up cutting him saving another 16.2 million in cap space and with PT's 830K against the cap only 5 million left to go. We will restructure Colston, Evans and a couple others to get to a positive cap number. I could even see them restricting drew a little. He's 33 million against the cap.

Re: And now Galette is on the block?

We will draft a DE in the first to replace him since we sound the allstar CB our of the CFL. Coach has a nard on for Canada

We gain nothing by cutting Gallete. He has 16.2 mil in dead money.

I'm wondering if Loomis really can spot talent at all? He gives way too much to way too few.:stupid:

I don't think it's Loomis' job to "spot" talent as you say, it's his job to make the business side of things work out...

It can't be all on Loomis who gets paid and who doesn't...

Re: And now Galette is on the block?

Galette will not be cut. Cutting him would give the Saints no relief. But if they trade him, they will have 3+ million in dead money, but save just north of 11 million.

If they can find a team willing to have Galette for 12 million this year with no guarantees in the future years, they might get a taker. Due to the money amount, they will not get a premium pick unless they also are taking back a contract someone wants to move. But, my guess is a team with cap space would be willing to give a late rounder or cheap role player for him. I'd look toward Jags or Raiders- both teams with lots of space and little edge rushing presence. The Redskins might also be a fit. Neither of those teams would give more than a 5th rounder for him.

Re: And now Galette is on the block?

It was fun to watch Galette grow into a starter.

We all pulled for him.

Can't say he's handled success well or that he's more than a situational pass rusher now.

If we trade him even to save a few million, I'll understand.

Brees is only $26.4 against the cap this season. Not $33M.

plus him running his mouth. I think JG is a locker room cancer.

whenever it comes out in the news that a team has someone on the trading block doesn't that usually mean they don't want these guys, but no one else is willing to trade for them?

I saw this earlier and thought it was pretty accurate:

Makes sense, I mean usually you hear either so and so working on trade or trade to be announced. when you hear shopping it isn't a good sign something will get done. cutting JG doesn't save us any money though, so I cant imagine we are moving him

This is why they use the roster bonus. If they trade him they are cleared of the $12.5M bonus hit this year. If they don't, they wil convert the roster bonus to a signing bonus (all a team option) and relegate $10M to future years. They are just doing their due diligence. If someone offers enough the Saints would take the dead money hit. If not, it is business as usual and Galette will be around for the foreseeable future.
