Sanford Re-signs 1 year deal
By Evan Woodbery, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
Veteran safety Jamarca Sanford has agreed to a one-year contract to return to the New Orleans Saints in 2015, agent Drew Rosenhaus told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on Friday. Sanford's signing leaves the Saints with 10 free agents remaining from the 2014 roster. Unsigned players become unrestricted free agents on Wednesday. The negotiating window begins on Saturday. Three restricted free agents -- defensive tackle Tyrun Walker, running back Travaris Cadet and offensive tackle Bryce Harris -- are not likely to be extended tender offers by the Saints. The seven remaining unrestricted free agents are: running back Mark Ingram, receiver Robert Meachem, center Jonathan Goodwin, defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick, linebackers Ramon Humber and Moise Fokou and cornerback Patrick Robinson. Terms of the contract were not immediately disclosed, but Sanford likely signed for a base salary of $745,000, the minimum for a player with six years of league service. The contract would count only $585,000 (plus any bonuses) against the salary cap because of the NFL's veteran minimum benefit. |
Re: Sanford Re-signs 1 year deal
Depth signing, solid backup and decent special teams player

Good move. Cheap veteran.

Good move.

Re: Sanford Re-signs 1 year deal
I like this move. Solid player and some might say a better strong safety than Vaccaro. I'd rather have Sanford back there than Marcus Ball.

Re: Sanford Re-signs 1 year deal
great move. Jamarca provides great depth. Keep Lofton and go for an edge rusher that can stand up if needed. Gallette is gone

Added depth.

Re: Sanford Re-signs 1 year deal
If we are letting all these veterans go then a calming presence would be a good thing to have in the locker room. Not only that he's got some skill.

Re: Sanford Re-signs 1 year deal
I think Bush will be dangled out there for a trade or potential cut.
I like him but think its a cost cutting effort there. No dead money on $1.95ml salary. For that money we can keep Sanford(745k though will only count as 585k as a vet), Warren 510k,Phillips 550k and Sunseri 550k. Thats 2.2ml for four safeties to play with/behind Byrd and Vacarro rather than 1.95ml on Bush alone |
Re: Sanford Re-signs 1 year deal
Samford was in the right area more than Vaccarro was. Samford's an average athlete but so is Vaccarro which I said from day 1 and was blasted here royally. After both their performances last year, it proves that life is not fair that Pierre Thomas is cut and Vaccarro is not.
